Be patient, making great espresso is not easy. You need a combination of good beans, grinder, water, machine and technique. It's fun if you like the hobby though! Get the best grinder you can afford. I like the Sette 270 if you want it to go fast. Baratza also has great customer service. Noisy grind

I assume it’s an Encore ESP you have, in which case yes, it’ll do you fine as you dial-in. If it’s the base Encore, then not so much — it lacks the resolution to adjust grind size appropriately for espresso. budget: $200-400 German/italian/western make Oof, this will be tricky. Low end Eurekas can f

In cup, Niche Zero is pretty similar, but as others have noted, out of budget, especially with the tariff nonsense rendering them especially unworthy. Baratza Sette 270 is noisy, plasticky, and janky. But excellent support from Baratza and the Etzinger burr gets you better texture and flavor (more c

If you want solid support and no drama, look at Eureka Mignon models (Specialita or same-range) or a Baratza Sette 270 — fits your budget and are made by companies that actually answer emails. Your current Baratza is fine to learn dosing, tamp and taste, but it won’t give the ultra-consistent fine g

The Sette 270 is an excellent piece of gear. I’ve loved mine since 2019 (and use it 2-4 times a day) and finally this April the gearbox gears had finally stripped. I sent Baratza customer support a video, they put me in touch with a real human, and they sent me a replacement gearbox for free. They s

I was one of the first to buy the Sette 270 when it became available. After dealing with some early production issues (which resulted in a quick replacement unit from Baratza) I've never looked back. I've been grinding 4 doses a day for over 6 years. Yes, I added a shim once which is no big deal, an

If the hand grinder is working, I would stick with it for a while. My daughter has the sette 270 paired with a Rocket Apartmento. The 270 does its job well, but super loud, with a plastic gearbox that will go out eventually. To be fair, baratza technical support was great, they sent a new gearbox wi

My daughter has the sette 270 paired with a Rocket Apartmento. The 270 does its job well, but super loud, with a plastic gearbox that will go out eventually. I’d say she makes 1 or 2 espresso per day and hers died around 3 years. .To be fair, baratza technical support was great, they sent a new gear

I have a Sette 270 now and am happy with it…then again I’m not in the same barista league as pretty much everyone in this thread…partly because I’ve never been a barista! I’ve had one time when the grind softened so I put in one of the plates Baratza provides when you buy it, and the problem was sol

At that price point, the sette 270 gives you amazing grind quality and speed. The downside is that it sounds like you're drilling into the countertop and the gearbox rips itself apart. I had the 270wi and after about a year of daily use the gearbox was starting to slip and consistently underdosing b
