Which Synology NAS to get in 2026?

I have DS423+ and can do all these things. Just bare in mind that if you wanna sail the pirate seas and use Plex you will have to buy a subscription for Plex, you can also go with Jellyfin (free) - this is a bit trickier to configure but still relatively easy. It's also worth checking if your TV has

Alternatives to Synology now they have stopped supporting video streaming

This may be an unpopular suggestion, but personally, I prefer to separate storage from (most) services. I have a PC running Proxmox VE hosting services like Plex, and let my DS423+ focus on file sharing and backups. Synology and similar NAS solutions offer wonderful flexibility and capabilities, but

Accidentally Bought An Incompatible Drive

For a DS423+, when you see that warning just click OK and you'll never see it again. Synology are slow to add new drive variations to each NAS' compatible drive list.

Peace out. It's been real.

Woohoo! Now, I have to decide if I want to keep my less-than-one-year-old DS423+ loaded with 4 x 10TB non-Synology drives. Well shucks! It works great and provides the services I want, so there is absolutely NO REASON for me to replace it. When the time comes, I'll address it then. Nothing to see he

Buying DS423+ over DS425+?

The only 'upgrade' to the 25 series are the 2.5 Gbps ports. However, you can also get that with an USB adapter. Search bb-qq/r8152 for more details on how to install the required driver (from https://github.com/bb-qq/r8152) and which USB adapters are compatible/working. In a worst case scenario, you

NAS

I've done the DIY, holy fuck does a Synology NAS just remove all the hard bullshit from your plate. Highly recommend just starting there. I've got the DS 423, it's been bulletproof.

Are there any performance issues with Synology NAS hosting dockerized apps

If I literally focus on what you wrote (docker … backups … VPN … email …) a Plus model Syno (DS423+, say) would be able to do all of that perfectly. Slides right in, solid as a rock, easy to use, docker is easy to access and configure, lots of useful consumer-facing apps, etc. etc. etc. The moment y

How well does a Pi 5 work as a NAS?

I personally don't like Pi's, I've just had too many fail on me, BUT! 1Gbit ethernet, do you need more than 1Gbit? What are you going to actually be doing on it? Unless you're going to be doing some heavy data transfer, you don't need over 1Gbit. ARM Processor, have a look at the specifications of s

Help on making a Plex PC Server

The i5-13500 (plus plexpass) makes a fantastic transcoding combination, able to transcode, for most of us anyway, to the moon and back. I'd not expect any issues. In RAMpocalypse times, I'd not go to 32GB; if it's just a Plex and the -Arrs server, 8GB is enough, but get 16GB just to have some extra

Looking to buy my first NAS

https://kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/tutorial/What_kind_of_CPU_does_my_NAS_have Your data is wrong; the DS425+ uses the same older J4125 as the others. I love my DS423+ - 4x20TB, 2xSSDs for docker and download/rar/par activity, and it’s in one tiny little box that handles Plex & many friends, other home auto
