Synology NAS harddrive question
Regular consumer NAS models no longer have the drive restrictions. I assume you're not looking to get an enterprise NAS so you should be fine getting a consumer model like a DS series. If you are still interested in getting a Synology NAS, make sure it's a plus (+) model and choose one with AVX supp

Reliable NAS for Time Machine?
Any modern NAS would do pretty well here; TM is table stakes in 2026. I have a Synology DS423+ and a few drives doing this now; works fine.

KISS Home NAS
I will tell anyone that will listen to completely ignore anything smaller than a 4 bay NAS. I would avoid the Synology 2025 Plus Series for a while because of the strict drive compatibility requirements. The Value Series is targeted at the home market and would be all you need for your current use c

macOS 26: where do you go TimeMachine ??
Same experience here. Time Machine over network has been getting worse with every macOS release. With macOS 26 it's basically unusable for me. I switched to a combination of Carbon Copy Cloner for full disk backups and Synology NAS with their own backup solution (Hyper Backup). Way more reliable, an

DIY Unraid vs turnkey NAS in 2026: still worth the build?
I’ve had the gamut, from Windows servers, Unraid servers, and Synology boxes. If you just want to serve files, have an always on way to backup your network of devices, run a great Plex server, handle HomeKit and other home automations, and run a mountain of containers, the Synology DS423+ / DS425+ w

Simple Cloud Storage Solution - Poll
I hosted a DIY NAS for several years, and it became more babysitting than I wanted. (Admittedly, it was because of my OS choice and strategy.) About 2 years ago, I purchased a Synology DS423+ 4-bay NAS, and haven't looked back. With local backups (Active Backup for Business), external backups (Hyper
