The girl math behind the jet purchase

The other half of it is people behind mad that he's increasingly out of touch with consumers I'm not mad, but I'm concerned. I need a new NAS because mine is 10 years old. Their NAS build was huge, had $2000 in HDDs, an SSD, and a $200 OS. My Synology NAS, complete with OS, is like $500. I want a ra

At what point do you stop backing up data?

Get a Synology NAS and some cheap storage, and backup via that.

Why can't we have a Synology NAS with GPU support?

NAS is storage. That is it's primary role. Transcoding on Synology was really just a bonus, but it's anemic, and it's just not what it's meant to do. Synology won't do a box like that if business clients don't all want that.

Linus to Bitwit

I don’t think Linus would give anyone a Synology NAS.

Why can't we have a Synology NAS with GPU support?

Why don't we get cars with wings so they can fly? Because planes exist and serve a different purpose to cars. The synology is a NAS for storage. You can run services on it but it's not ideal. A mini pc would be better. Don't overengineer a hammer to be able to screw in screws when a screwdriver alre

Nearly ordered a Synology NAS when I heard it won't work with 3rd party HDDs. This can't be true can it?

Synology enshitification is in full effect. I will use mine until they die or really need to be replaced but after that I'll be jumping ship to a brand that doesn't charge a premium for a lesser experience in a walled garden, or if need be I'll build my own.

Easy question from a noobie

Choose SHR over RAID1, it’s just easier and there are no drawbacks. If you care more about capacity than redundancy (and backups are far more important than redundancy for most - redundancy only helps if you can’t spare the time to restore from backup and must have it running 24/7/365) then you coul

1 Synology with an SSD and HDD pool. How to minimise drive spin up?

Here's a Synology Knowledge Base article to get you started. There's also an Unofficial List on Synology Community. Getting Synology NAS to hibernate in real-world environments is generally more difficult than you'd think it should be. Good luck! You may find that allowing the hdds to spin continuou
