Erstes NAS - oder doch was ganz anderes?

Indirect connection / Port forward

Have a look at borg instead, bit more of a learning curve but a borg repository will retain all permissions. I do have an rsync script rsyncing home to

Dealing with client file access?

Oh I get it, the Synology NAS lets you do that. You can generate a link for any file or folder that you can encrypt or leave open for clients to access and download. They only have access to whatever you want for as long as you want. Very easy to manage everything

Do you guys backup your data using Time Machine before updating MacOS?

I am not a fan of Time Machine on my MacBook because I am using it on the go way to often so the backup to my NAS would fail. And carrying an external drive is not an option for me. So I switched approach. I only care about my files and not about my settings because those are pretty default with min
