2nd Gen Sega Saturn controller is probably the best for fighting games. Best d-pad ever produced, and you get 6 face buttons for the capcom and snk beat-em-ups. And the convexing/concaving of the top/bottom row is an incredibly under-appreciated quirk. There’s some great modern wireless reproduction

I found this controller for Sega Saturn.
I don’t understand “the d-pad is awful, just like the original” The d-pad on the Sega Saturn controller is the best d-pad I’ve ever used, and it’s not close. I compare every other controller against it.

Do dual shock 4 controller dpads diagonals just not work correctly for anyone else?
Pads with cross d-pads are generally not great for this. Circular d-pads are much better at this. Anything modelled after the Sega Saturn controller tends to be good.

Redeeming aspects you discovered from failed hardware
Ignore the number pad and it feels exactly like a standard 3 button Genesis pad. I have totally normal sized hands, it fits hands a billion times better than PS1 pad for example. The criticism of the controller could be it didn't add the button layout that was great for 2D (saturn pad) or 3D (Saturn

Am I insane for using D-Pad
Nah I use a SEGA Saturn controller for ring racers, D-pad is completely fine if you’re used to it. Stick can be useful in some scenarios but that’s what the lite steer setting is for I guess

Controllers for mister setup
Sega Saturn pad + daemon bite adapter gets you one of the best d pads + <1 ms latency (essentially 0) The retrobit wired Saturn controller is ~1 ms latency is also a good choice though the dpad seems raised and doesn't feel as good as the original, though only slightly. The m30 is a bit too small ,

Fighting Games with The Playstation Dpad compared to the Saturn
Not even in the same league. Sega Saturn controller is without a doubt one of the best for fighting games ,the Neo Geo controller may be a very close second in my opinion.

Which controller you picking? 🎮
It isn't just you, they swapped the design for the turbo one and it has slightly larger face buttons, a different D-Pad, and slightly different contours. I think it influenced the Sega Saturn controller a bit.

recommendation about controllers
8Bitdo M30 2.4ghz (or xbox edition if you want the Xbox compatibility) imo has the best dpad I've used and a good 6 button layout. It's basically a sega saturn controller. Cheap too.

Which system had the better fighting games lineup: SNES or Genesis?
It's the first time in more than 30 years I see someone say the shoulder buttons are more natural way to play Street Fighter 2. I mean, this Street Fighter 2. The Mega-Drive 6 button controller would be the golden standard DPAD controller for fighting games... if the Japanese Sega Saturn controller
