I think the 8bitdo M30 might be a bit better but I've not tried the genesis one tbh. I have the M30 and it's great but I mostly just use the JoyCon for convenience.

As with any IR gamepad, they really only work if you have a clear line of sight between the receiver and the controllers themselves. Your controller is very good already. If you want a different dpad that doesn't break the bank, try a DS4 for a cross shape or an 8bitdo M30 for Sega Genesis style. Leverless is "optimal", but unintuitive for some people (me included). Arcade Sticks are hella fun, but expensive.

There are thousands of clone consoles and finding this specific one will be a burden. The game appears to be the NES version of Baseball. What I'd recommend doing is either buying a Genesis Mini and modding it with Hakchi to run NES roms, or emulating via a PC or a laptop while using a Genesis style

I mostly use the 8bitdo m30 controller. Good latency, sega layout, and works well for a lot of arcade games. Less ideal for ps1 and snes. If you're looking for a number of options it is a great versatile addition.

The 8bitdo m30 is my go-to shmup controller, when I’m not playing on my Saturn. Using any other d pad feels like hot garbage to me.
