Any Lumix Cameras Around $2000 That are Just as Good, If Not Better Than The Sony FX30?

Disclosure: I own the G9 II and shoot on GH7's and FX30's for work. I'm gonna have some bias towards the Panasonic offering so take this with a grain of salt. The G9 II is probably the closest you can get in the Lumix lineup at a cheaper price point. It's currently on sale at Amazon for 1.6k body on

Switching from FF to mFT

Lumix doesn't have better photo IQ, they may have been talking about its Video quality which panasonic cameras are renowned for. If you're trying to keep things small I'd recommend going with the OM-1 or OM-5 vs the G9II. The G9 is considered large by MFT standards and is even bigger than your Z7. H

Birding camera recommendations

There are two options for "Not too heavy" and $2000: Canon R7 + RF 100-400: Low weight and good reach, but the lens isn't the brightest. Probably the best camera to fit your requirements. Sony A6700 + 70-350: Less reach than the Canon, but brighter. But unless you're in forests or other dim environm

Camera recommendations? Beginner

The OM 100-400 II is actually only barely lighter than the Tamron 50-400 and Sigma 100-400 (both very similar in specs to the OM). Of course, the 20MP MFT sensor of the OM-1 still squeezes more reach out of 400mm than the 26MP APS-C sensor of the A6700 (Fuji's 40MP sensor actually beats the OM-1 on

First camera

It depends on your budget and expectations. While the E-M5 and E-M10 Mark II are capable cameras on their own, one is 14 years old and the other uses 11-year-old technology. The sensors and much of the technology are way behind current standards, even by M43 standards. The usable ISO on these old ca

Coming from "smartphone photography" – is MFT a good starting point?

G9 II is a video and photographic camera. It’s $1500 or was recently and sourcing it used is another option. It’s mft. 25 megapixel camera. Panasonic has reasonably priced lenses. MFT is a great system to get your toes wet. Give a feel for photography. MFT is my sidekick system for wildlife, reason,

Bigger grip: Olympus E-M1 or Panasonic G9?

Thanks for the solid response. I was leaning towards the G9 myself because it seems it has a slightly larger grip, but your point about an intuitive menu system is valuable. Fuji's menu system was really confusing at times. Do you have any strong feelings on G9 MI vs MII? I'm not a pro photographer

My GH6 cinema rig :D

The GH6 actually handles low light pretty well, even far better than I expected. You just have to crank your aperture wide open, and with Viltrox EF-M2 (which I use in my rig) you can get another F-stop (instead of F1.8, Sigma 18-35 becomes F1.2) + it also reduces the crop factor to 1.5x instead of
