Posting bird photos every week until I'm good enough to justify a camera upgrade [Week 1]

The Panasonic Lumix FZ80 is a decent choice for casual nature photography. If you want to stick with what you know, a Panasonic Lumix G95/G97 or G100 would be the next step. Pair it with a Lumix 100-300 mm or 100-400 mm zoom. Personally, I have a G95. It's a little larger for handling the bigger zoo

Beginner dad: What’s the best hybrid camera hybrid (S9 vs other options) for my situation?

I use my camera almost exclusively for family life. 10 bit video, reliable human tracking and good stabilization are the main things to look for in a hybrid dad cam. I wouldn’t recommend an OM-5 or GX9 for your use, because they both lack 2 out of the 3 things I mentioned above. I’ve owned an E-M10

Are there landscape photographers here using m43?

The two main requirements for landscapes are resolution and dynamic range. The best M43 camera in terms of both is the Panasonic G9ii. Its dynamic range at low ISOs is at least 1 stop wider than any camera with the “old” 20MP sensor because it combines its dual pipelines to capture more information.

What body to get next?

G9 is the cheapest camera I could tolerate for video but you have to use Lumix lenses or the autofocus will suck. If I had mostly OM lenses an OM3 would be the cheapest video camera I would want to use. G9II is objectively the best value MFT video camera. But if you’re using Olympus lenses on it the

Are there landscape photographers here using m43?

My personal anecdote: I use several OM lenses on my g9 II and I've never felt much difference in engagement with the sealing rings compared to Panasonic lenses. If anything the OM lenses are slightly 'tighter'. I sold my om-5 before I could test a pana lens on it so can't compare the opposite. But a

Should I upgrade from the GH5 to the S9 for concert coverage?

Short of the GH7, the G9II is the best M43 video camera you could get, hilariously so considering Panasonic marketed it as a photography-oriented camera and yet jam-packed it with about as many features as a video-centric camera like the S5IIX. The only major tradeoff is a lack of active cooling, bu

Camera recommendations? Beginner

The OM 100-400 II is actually only barely lighter than the Tamron 50-400 and Sigma 100-400 (both very similar in specs to the OM). Of course, the 20MP MFT sensor of the OM-1 still squeezes more reach out of 400mm than the 26MP APS-C sensor of the A6700 (Fuji's 40MP sensor actually beats the OM-1 on

G9 II + OM System 100-400mm f/5-6.3 II — anyone running this cross-brand combo for wildlife/dog sports?

That is so kind of you! Pleased to meet you! My wife competes in Hoopers, and our life revolves a lot around this community. She competes with our mighty Boston Terrier and currently trains its successor Lurcher (Border Collies + Whippet). I do not consider myself an expert in the field, but can con

Lumix L10 Preview (Micro Four Nerds)

Yes, it is 2 stops of difference with noise. I did say that you can crank the iso way higher. However that advantage is lost when you have to shoot at f8 to get crisp wide angle images. This single issue has me considering selling my s1rii to go back to a G9ii. I shoot a lot of indoor events and spa

Replacing Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mk 2 with Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk 1 for bird photography.

For birds, handheld, both IS and AF are useful. If you plan to keep the Lumix 100-300 mm and want the best IS, you should go with a G85 or GX85. You'll get Dual IS. Lumix OIS will not work with Olympus IBIS. You get either/or. No PDAF for you, but DFD AF is good. To get PDAF and Dual IS you need a G
