(Semi) Hot Take - The Wüsthof fish spatula is … alright i guess.

In Kitchen Confidential, Bourdain famously endorsed the Global G-2 as his recommendation for one "good" knife. I'd say that makes it a hot take in r/KitchenConfidential

My cousin with three kids and a full time job asked me what knives I’d recommend she stock her new house with. What maker would you recommend to someone who is definitely not a knife person and just needs something reliable to do the work?

Why are Global knives hated on so much? Is the quality of the knives really that bad?

I got a set of 3 global knives for 110 USD off of the official global store. A G-2 + GS-5 + GS-61. Happy with the quality for 36 USD per knife.

Choosing between Zwilling santoku 7in and rocking santoku - which is better? (I basically want a santoku that can rock but be study enough to cut squash. I'm afraid the rocking won't have the power and that the normal santoku can't rock well.)

Most santokus rock well IME. I'd highly recommend the souma fkm Santoku over a zwilling. Really excellent grind, and a great thin tip for scoring cuts. It's not a high rocker so if you rock on say carrots or squash the top will dig in, but if it's just say herbs and garlic, it does great. https://ja

Looking for something under 200 Euros for my boyfriend. Would appreciate your help!

Global 8" chef's knife is an all around winner at only $99 USD https://www.globalcutleryusa.com/classic-g-2?srsltid=AfmBOoryUqVzN8AwCCzR6-vt0Fiy4L-ULIBO-SyqBDtS8c3N3mayWsjm That being said, a knife is a highly personal choice and what one person loves someone else might not like. It might be best to

Which one is most fun to use and worth the money? Global G2 (currently 819SEK)? GF-98(1158SEK)? GF-33(1799SEK)? Another model? (NI / Olive sharpened?) Würsthof Classic(1095SEK), Classic Ikon (1395SEK)? I have average sized hands and I am an amateur and haven't used a brand better than IKEA.

Get yourself the G-2. Not only is it far cheaper, but it's also just the better choice. All three Global knives use the same steel. The GF-98 has double the thickness of the G-2, and that will negatively impact how easily the knife glides through product. The geometry of a knife is more important th

Best chef knives for ~$300

OP, you are describing the Global G-2. Excellent Japanese workhorse used in restaurants around the world. It’s the chef knife St. Anthony Bourdain recommends for the use case you describe.
