I see a lot of people recommending the 990 Pro for the Xbox Ally X, but before you go get the fastest and most expensive drive, think about power consumption. The stock Samsung MZ-VMA1T00 (PM9A1) already balances solid speed with power efficiency, usually drawing around 4.5W under load. The 990 Pro,

I have the v2 (lian li v100 case) but otherwise the same setup aside from putting in my own sn850 x ssd to store games on. absolutely love it. Running great had it for about 3 weeks now. Great temps, well-tuned. playing Arc Raiders, and outer worlds 2 max settings so far.

OWC 1M2 and wd_black sn850x Zero disconnects, even in sleep mode. The 1M2 is a passive cooled (silent) enclosure that keeps the SSD cooler than most active cooled enclosures The sn850x has more dram cache (FWIUS) compared to the Samsung SSDs for better sustained performance (write speeds). I have a temp sensor on the back of my PSU and a sn850x on the back of the mobo, temp sensor maxed at 50°c and sn850 at 60°c, bearing in mind the ssd also generates heat. Not too worried with those temps

i went through this last month with my M4. for reliability i'd look at the Samsung 990 Pro or WD Black SN850X. both have solid controllers and good heat management. some of the cheaper drives do fail over time especially with constant read writes. the 990 Pro has been super stable for me and works f

I’d say go with the WD_Black. I have been using a WD_Black SN850X since I bought my PS5 Slim Christmas of 2024 & it’s been performing great. If you do go with WD_Black, do your self a favor & save some money & don’t purchase the SN850P. The SN850X & SN850P are literally identical & offer the same spee

Yes, you do need one. You don’t need thermal paste though. I got a WD SN850 and then a 20 quid heatsink. The heatsink came with a thermal adhesive pad that you just stick to the SDD and then stick the heatsink on top, requires zero expertise other than what you’d use to put on a plaster/band aid or

Heatsink is required. The WD SN850 with heatsink is what one of the PS5 developers said he would put in his PS5, that’s why I put a 2TB version of that model in my PS5.

I have a WD SN850 2TB with heatsink, because one of the main developers of the PS5 said that’s the one he would put in his PS5. Never had overheating issues. My PS5 is inside an Ikea Besta cupboard with door, but I leave the door open when I’m gaming, en I hook a USB fan (12cm) up to the PS5 and aim

Update your bios to the latest ‘Version 3279’ which came out yesterday 8/5/25. You may want to save your overclocks somewhere before flushing the bios as it will not save a profile. Resizeable bar can be a bit weird on newer systems, if you ever encounter crashing or blue screens, disable it but con
