PSA Mesh is fine for a lot of people

It’s not that UniFi is a bad mesh system. It’s that if you’re already resorting to mesh instead of wired backhaul, IMO there are better solutions that are easier to use and cost less. Eero is widely known as basically a completely bulletproof mesh system. High throughput, excellent range, incredibly

Input for basic home setup

i feel you, ubiquiti's lineup gets confusing fast. you're spot on with the UCG Ultra and Lite 8 PoE - that combo covers what you listed. the gateway and switch themselves don't broadcast wifi though, only the ap does. for the right side of the house, you'll want another access point over there. the

Aren’t most setups here insanely overkill? Am I missing something?

My 1st setup was a USG3, a cloud key, and an AP. Now I have a UDMP, a 24-port PoE switch, several small switches feeding my ham radio room and my media center, and u6 mesh APs. It might be overkill to some folks, but with VLANs separating services, it keeps congestion down and everything works. I ha

Questions about an upstairs/downstairs wireless network

i feel you on the rental struggle. the Cloud Gateway Ultra is a solid pick for what you're describing - it handles vlans easily for isolating those smart lights. for the downstairs connection, you could grab a U6 Mesh which works great wirelessly for now but converts to a wired access point later wh

My first ubiquity device: router/AP for a small home, what should I choose?

Since I'm still relatively new to Ubiquiti myself, I'm curious what others might say. Indeed the Express looks like the most inexpensive option that gets you connectivity with WiFi. However, it's very limited in terms of future capacity. For your specific situation as described it might be just the

Need Camera Suggestions - sick and tired of Wyze

I bought a 6U rack and installed a Unifi Dream Machine Pro-Special Edition which is a router and Network Video Recorder in one. It has one drive bay that I loaded up with a 2TB SSD for the recordings, and then added two access points for the WiFi (just upgraded to U6 Mesh access points earlier this

Dream 7 Router - extra kit needed for office wifi access?

Ignore the name…it’s misleading. All Ubiquiti APs can connect wirelessly (aka mesh). Pick the U6-Mesh if you want a table top AP or to have options of wall, table top, outdoor…for now and the future. I use that model quite often personally.

Is this normal?

I really don't get why these Home builders install cables like this. It makes zero sense. Being that the other side is the garage, Ok, not the end of the world. Is your house a 1 or 2 story? If it is 2-Story, it would be a lot harder to do much of anything Other then bring all those cables to the In

Advice for home setup.

You didn't say what modem you have, some don't run at the full gig but some do. So, it might make sense to get something that will fully utilize your plan. My old Arris started to fail by showing intermittent errors - looking like it was Comcast's fault, but it wasn't and a replacement modem has wor

Looking for wifi router recommendations - fed up with my Deco mesh system

Oh please. I bet there are tons of people having APs hanging from desks, sitting on cabinets, all over the place. That is a weak example, mine has been hanging from a closet shelf off the Ethernet cable for 19yrs….well this is the 2nd upgrade AP in the same position. But the assumption that you sugg
