Introducing: U7 Mesh
People, it's not a downgrade to U6 Mesh. U6 Mesh had 4x4, but, weaker omnidirectional antennas. This one has a dedicated antenna for the wireless backhaul: 5GHz, directional, 10 dBi. The installation instructions show that you have to point the 2 U7 Mesh devices, with the Ubiquiti logo towards each o

PSA Mesh is fine for a lot of people
It’s not that UniFi is a bad mesh system. It’s that if you’re already resorting to mesh instead of wired backhaul, IMO there are better solutions that are easier to use and cost less. Eero is widely known as basically a completely bulletproof mesh system. High throughput, excellent range, incredibly

Invested in UniFi APs to solve my WiFi headaches, but they persist - need help!
If the U6 Mesh is wired in, then I have seen behavior where phones suddenly drop off wifi or the wifi says "no internet" on the phone when an Ethernet cable to the AP is bad and causing intermittent behavior. It could also be misconfigured settings for your wifi network. If a cable is flaky, the wir

Dream Router 7 vs. ASUS MESH
the dream router 7 works with any ubiquiti ap for meshing. grab a U7 Pro as your node - same generation, full speed. or a U6 Mesh if you want something designed for outdoor/outlet mounting. both will mesh seamlessly. the dr7 can do pppoe directly so you can bypass the att modem. i swapped from asus

Looking for advice on a small multi-site deployment NLOS
ngl that's a solid setup idea. for NLOS at 300 yards with banners in the way, the Ubiquiti Building to Building Bridge would handle it - those things punch through clutter. pair it with a U6 Mesh at each tent for the wifi and ethernet ports. the dual base stations work great with EdgeRouter 12 for f

U6 Mesh still a viable choice?
It does NOT have dedicated backhaul. Both U6 and U7 mesh are both erroneously named. They are simply APs just like any other. They are waterproof. U6 only has 1Gb uplink. 4x4 MIMO 5GHz on the U6 provides incredibly minimal performance improvement over a 2x2 AP unless there are clients with 4x4 radio

Thinking about ubiquiti
ran into this with an old brick row house. you dont need a gateway to start - just run the unifi network controller on your proxmox nuc and adopt the aps. your tp link poe switch will power them fine, no ubiquiti switch required. for desktop placement grab a u6 mesh or u7 pro wall - both sit nicely

Replacement of U6 Mesh
I’d hold off and wait for the next generation; in my experience, the U6 mesh is much better than the U7 mesh, and the 4x4 design in the 5 GHz band is still top-notch. The only difference and reason to go with a U7 is if you absolutely have MLO and Wi-Fi 7 devices. 160 MHz bandwidth support works jus

Questions about an upstairs/downstairs wireless network
i feel you on the rental struggle. the Cloud Gateway Ultra is a solid pick for what you're describing - it handles vlans easily for isolating those smart lights. for the downstairs connection, you could grab a U6 Mesh which works great wirelessly for now but converts to a wired access point later wh

UTR paid for itself 10-20x in one day.
Not at all. UniFi is great. I have mine covering 3 acres using multiple U6 Mesh, have a few 6 and 7 pros, the in walls, several switches and the UDM Pro on 8gb fiber internet in rural GA. It’s been a fantastic system. My mobile setups are all gl.inet (RV, my wife’s car and my truck plus) plus one I
