Building First Home Server On A Budget in Canada
Decide how large your media collection should be, if you also need to store backups on this machine and how large you expect that to get... That means deciding how much positions for 3.5" is needed.. the picking of the case, how large can it be... not much space required - refurbished miniPC from Le

F6-424 Software/Security Support
Unraid all the way. The Terramaster OS isnt that great. I have the F6-424 and the N95 cpu and 8GB of stock ram are just fine for Unraid. As for secure, you mean external access? Tailscale is your friend there. Don't open ports. Basically, the TM hardware is pretty good and the price of the F6 right

I’ve come to the conclusion that nas’ are not for noobs
I want to preface this comment with, "I don't know if I can recommend what I'm about to say to a complete noob" however, I highly recommend ditching Terramaster's software and running something different. I have the F6-424 Max as well and I'm running UnRaid on it. Aside from a couple little quirks g

TrueNAS SCALE (Terramaster F4-424) Becomes Unresponsive After Large Transfers — Seeking Help Diagnosing
For my issue I narrowed it to thermal problems (likely poor heatsink application at factory), and replacement seems to be stable so far. Here's a summary of my troubleshooting, and BIOS settings you may want to tweak if running TrueNAS. Issue: Brand new Terramaster F6-424 Max running TrueNAS SCALE k

F4 424MAX somehow adding CPU fan
Thanks for sharing. I copied your solution and put the dual M.2 Ngff 2.5" SATA Adapter to the last slot of f6-424 max. It just fits and works perfectly. The CPU idle temperature drops by 10-15 celsius when the RPM value is around 1300 (default is around 1800-2200 and it is super noisy) and I can now

Looking for a 12-bay nas..not synology…anyone has anything in mind?
Of course there are people willing to pay a premium for the smallest package, but generally I'd suggest better hardware that's easier to upgrade with your needs over the smallest package. Especially because something being volumetrically 60% bigger doesn't result in actually much more space on a dim

Which NAS ? ZimaCube, Ugreen, Terramaster
I could build my own, but I don't really want to. I am 99% sure I prefer TrueNas or Unraid. You could save a pretty penny (like $400) by DIYing, especially since you're already considering TrueNAS or UnRaid. You pay for the OS on the off-the-shelf units even if you don't use it. Though if form facto
