What spec would you use for Immich?

Immich really doesn’t require much. I’m using a Synology DS923+. The only downside was my initial import of 1TB of photos took quite awhile to complete all the jobs and tasks for optimizing my library, face recognition, thumbnails, etc. Alter the initial import is done it requires almost nothing on

Can someone help me diagnose this stuttering, please?

Probably your PC was beter at transcoding than your Synology 923+ Also has no no built in GPU. Weak for heavy software transcoding.

Plex server on an Intel N150 mini PC + external USB3 Drive?

Not really, honestly. I run an N100 MiniPC hooked up to a DS923+ Synology NAS and it's been pretty trouble-free. I went the Windows route as well since I have 40 years of experience with Windows and was able to get everything up and running in an afternoon. The only annoyance is the forced Windows u

Best solution to my storage needs.

Pulled this from a chat gpt response of what you said above... The simplest “best fit” build for your numbers 4 bay NAS + 4 x 10TB or 4 x 12TB drives in RAID5 (or Synology SHR). • 4 x 10TB in RAID5 gives about 27TB usable • 4 x 12TB in RAID5 gives about 33TB usable That lands right in your 20 to 24T

Synology vs alternatives for a first, family-friendly NAS – worth it?

Besides what everyone already said here I would like to add a few things: In terms of storage I’ve been taught going for 2.5 times the storage of what you think you need. Doing some quick maths (200 gb * 3 * 2,5=1.500 GB). Always round up above so 2 tb minimum for a drive. There is no such thing as pl

Advice on Nas?

If you want to go for a NAS and run Docker/VMs go for Ugreen, much better hardware and you can always customise and install an OS of your choice. Synology used to be good but not anymore also the hardware on the 423 is very old compared to the new Ugreen stuff. Disclaimer: I’m still running a Synolo

Building a PiHole Ad-Blocker

People turn their NAS off/sleep? Synology DS923+, 10x12tb HGST helium Toshiba. 8xNAS + 2x in hand spare. I turned off all sleep/spin down. A NAS should be on 24x7. I am in the camp of it is better to "leave it on" rather than on/off all the time. UPS says I have about 260w total running NAS/PC/netwo

Should I Buy a NAS or Build a Server for My Self-Hosted Family Setup?

A simple takeaway from me is: keep compute and storage separate — don’t combine both.I was also confused between the pre-built NAS options like the Synology DS923+ and the UGreen models. I chose the DS923+ because I’m only going to use it purely as a NAS, while the actual compute will be handled by
