Can someone help me diagnose this stuttering, please?
Probably your PC was beter at transcoding than your Synology 923+ Also has no no built in GPU. Weak for heavy software transcoding.

Advice on Nas?
If you want to go for a NAS and run Docker/VMs go for Ugreen, much better hardware and you can always customise and install an OS of your choice. Synology used to be good but not anymore also the hardware on the 423 is very old compared to the new Ugreen stuff. Disclaimer: I’m still running a Synolo

DS220+ for Immich: Is It Enough?
If your only concern is Immich then no, I wouldn't buy new hardware (unless you need more HDD bays). However, if you anticipate running much beyond Immich, then yes I would definitely look at a decommissioned server to use as your NAS. That's what I did after outgrowing my Synology DS923+. You're li

Run services on NAS or dedicated server?
I have it as you say I have a DS923+ that had my docker containers such as plex and others, but since it doesn’t even have iGPU I built a home server with an i5-12400 which can transcode AV1 and more like a beast. I rsync all of plex-media-server data to the docker folder I created on this new pc an

Home-Server/Home-Storage/Cloud
A NAS definitely can run backend services and databases in containers - the issue is how efficiently it does so. A weak CPU (try to get x86, not ARM) and HDD storage instead of SSD will likely cause slow performance and frustration. especially in terms of databases. But, honestly, i’d suggest diggin

State of UGreen vs Synology
Hardware: The DS925+ is a "downgrade" to the DS923+. No option for 10GbE anymore. The DS4800 plus/pro has 1x10GbE. While Synology now allows 3rd party HDDs in their x25+ series, I think 3rd party NVMEs are still restricted (cache or pool?), but I could be wrong about this. Ugreens hardware offering

For Plex, did moving from external drives to a NAS feel worth it?
I don’t know, I’m thinking of going back the other way. I bought a synology ds923+ last year and 3x20tb wd red drives and it’s been headache after headache. All 3 drives have crapped put now, one after another. Synology blames drives, but drives seem fine outside of the NAS. I long for the days of a

Replace fixed DNS from AT&T model+router?
Interesting, good to know. Do you have a recommended device for hosting Pi-hole? I have a Synology DS923+ which should be able to host it, but wondering if there are any gotchas, e.g. better to have a dedicated device. (one annoying thing: the Synology does not turn back on after a power outage, unl
