Time Machine solutions for near future
Synology NAS hardware works with Time Machine over the network. Buy a Synology case, drop a suitable drive or drives in it and after a few minutes of setup, you are ready. They even support cloning the data to cloud storage for automatic offsite backups - for an added fee of course. Most NAS support

Best way to keep local backup of iCloud storage?
I actually use 2 - I have a DS718+ and a DS920+. A little clarification from my comment might be needed. The Mac needs to be running to get backed up, but all the other cloud backups happen without any intervention from a computer. To set it up, a computer would be easier than a tablet, but it’s pro

Best way of storing backups with a single node?
I have a single PVE node, consisting of a 1 liter/usff Dell Micro box. One m.2 (120GB) for the host OS, one SSD (1TB) for the guest VMs and LXCs. Beyond that, data storage - including backups - is on my Synology DS920+ NAS, over gigabit ethernet. No, it's not the most high performing system out ther

Goodbye Synology, hello Unraid!
Cool looking build! I made the same journey recently and am very happy. I still have my 920+ for a few things and as a backup for critical files on the unraid. I now run all my main apps and file serving from unraid and it works flawlessly. I think it's easier in some areas than the Synology.

Those of you that bought a mini PC to "upgrade" the horsepower of an aging NAS: are you happy with your mini PC? Now that the dust has settled, what, if anything, would you do differently?
I have one of those 'tiny-mini-micro' 1L usff PCs - specifically a Dell 7060, 6 core i8500T, upgraded to 32GB RAM, added a second ssd (1 TB) to the original (120 GB), running Proxmox for a couple VMs and maybe a dozen LXCs. The smaller drive is for the OS, the other is for the VMs and LXCs themselve

Immich makes my Synology DS224+ almost unusable during first backup (~32k files)
on the NAS: to the immich .env file add IMMICH_WORKERS_INCLUDE=api to the docker-compose.yml file under redis: add ports: - "6379:6379" under database: add ports: - "5433:5432" On the remote worker Mount the uploads and postgres directories to your filesystem to the immich .env file add DB_HOSTNAME=<N

What online subscription app that you use daily is 100% worth it?
Just search up (YouTube probably easiest) Plex in combination with NAS Drive. That's what I use. Particularly, a Synology DS920-- but there are plenty of cheaper options. With Plex, it auto-populates thumbnails and synopsis stuff to. Maybe even subs, I don't remember. It looks awesome, and makes it

Restore from backup.
i had this same conundrum recently where i had immich running on an HP ML110 running proxmox on it's own ubuntu VM; lol because of certain outside factors electricity is now expensive as fuck so i decided to condense it down to a mini pc (ubuntu/docker). i followed the backup and restore process out

Time for an upgrade
Some thoughts that might help you:A two bay NAS either doesn't have any security or wastes a lot of the space for your HDDs. A Raid5 like setup makes much more sense to me. So getting a 4-bay NAS is a great way to go. If you want minimal effort and like to stay at Synology's ecosystem, I'd go for a
