Cum arata home serverul vostru?

Vezi r/homelab .

How are y'all managing your photo libraries?

Did this as well. I got a synology 920+ with two 10TB drives. Have been using them for 3 years. It also doubles as my Plex media server as well. Worth the 700 or so upfront cost. I'll probably add two more 14TB drives at the end of the year.

Bought a SSD for 1300$ last week. Order got canceled because they were "out of stock". They're suddenly back in stock for twice the amount (2880$). Thanks a lot AI buble...

If I'm not mistaken, there are scripts to get rid of the Synology requirement. But it's some BS that Synology still requires branded SSDs. When I upgrade from my 920+ it's not going to be a Synology NAS.

Time Machine solutions for near future

Synology NAS hardware works with Time Machine over the network. Buy a Synology case, drop a suitable drive or drives in it and after a few minutes of setup, you are ready. They even support cloning the data to cloud storage for automatic offsite backups - for an added fee of course. Most NAS support

DS920+ to what?

We also have a 920+. It is up to date and will receive full updates for quite a while, no end of live is announced for it and once it is announced, Synology typically provides security updates for another 2 years, so use it and enjoy it until further notice. If you only use as backup file server, Sy

Looking for a NAS for a Plex/Jellyfin server

I run Jellyfin on my Synology DS920+ NAS. IMO, only Synology's plus series of NAS devices (with a GPU) are suitable for a consumer grade Jellyfin server. Among the latest models, only the DS425+ has the GPU needed for Jellyfin hardware transcoding - - that's probably the NAS I'd get if I bought one

Best way to keep local backup of iCloud storage?

I actually use 2 - I have a DS718+ and a DS920+. A little clarification from my comment might be needed. The Mac needs to be running to get backed up, but all the other cloud backups happen without any intervention from a computer. To set it up, a computer would be easier than a tablet, but it’s pro

End of an Era: Drobo FS died -> Spare HDD’s

The compatibility list for Synology (pre 2025) is what they will support with tech support, not what you can use and the NAS will recognize,if memory serves me right. Does the DS920+ see the drives? If yes, use them. If not, try your hand at a "hand-made" NAS with OpenMediavault, Unraid or TrueNas (

Worth it to use Synology NAS as storage and old PC w/ GPU as main media server?

I'm running proxmox on a lenovo mini pc for all my vms/containers and use my synologly for mass storage. I prefer my nas to be for storage and keep my services separate. I also have a DS920+ and i figured the iGPU in my lenovo mini pc (i5-10500t) would be better than the synology's aswell. I run jel

What’s a good starter NAS?

Funny right after posting this I saw that the new version of Synology DSM will be rolling out very soon, and DSM 7.4 will not be available to units older than 2021 (so my ds418 play will not be able to install dsm7.4 and neither will the 920 plus that I recommended above).
