Is there a NAS device with simple OS that easily downloads torrents directly to your setup?
Synology Works great! Maybe try to get an older used model for cheap. I have ds918+ and its a workhorse.

Am I too stupid for TrueNAS?
I went from Synology ds918+ to TrueNAS virtualized on Proxmox with HBA passed through to TrueNAS vm and had no issues with stability. Lots of learning on snapshots, replication, mounts. But no stability issues. Can you post details on “random” crashes- logs, dmesg clips, etc? Hard to diagnose withou

UGREEN DXP4800 on Xpenology what's your experience?
I had it on DXP2800 and DXP4800 for short time> no complains. Now I have a DXP 4800plus and it´s running with no problems since 2-3 Weeks. I´m not panning to use it as my primary NAS ( MainNas DS720 ) but i´m using it as Jellyfin/PlexServer, Torrent, HomeAssistent, BackupNas. Main Nas (sensitive Dat

How important is RAM?
Well I've grown in maturity over the years, let's call it phases: - phase1: apps installed on NAS from (community) repositories - phase2: apps installed on NAS via docker-compose (Container Manager - phase3: moved my docker stackto a spare Intel NUC8 (OS = ubuntu server) and NFS mount my shares -pha

HP N54L replacement
The sweet spot second-hand would be something like the DS918+ or DS920+. Both use Intel x86 CPUs, support Docker and VMs, and still have plenty of performance for modern self-hosting. The DS918+ is older but still very capable, especially with a RAM upgrade. The DS920+ is newer and will likely get l

NAS for backup and plex/jellyfin?
The hardware differences really don't come into play for most NAS use cases. I'm running lots of server apps on my 8 year old DS918+ and it's still doing the job just fine. What matters is the software, and absolutely nobody can beat what Synology offers in that department. Nor will anyone dispute t

Newbie wants bang-for-buck NAS
You do realize that all of these "opinions" are driven by biased financial interests? Either someone is getting paid to represent a product, or competitors seed negative information that is intended to keep you "going in circles" with statements like "built to fail." I bought 4 WD RED drives for my

What kind of hardware is everyone using?
Synology Diskstation DS918+, 4-drives, running immich in Docker. Mine is setup with a reverse proxy for access from the world. I love my device, it just works, but if you consider Synology devices, be warned that their current 2025 models require using Synology's enterprise drives only. This has cre

Bare metal or Proxmox?
Thanks! I have an ageing Synology (DS918+) which still works and can be kept for storage, I could backup Proxmox to it. My main use case right now is immich + plex, since Synology removed transcoding. I would like to run Xpenology on it, first to test it, and if at some point my Synology device fail
