Synology Reverses Policy Banning Third-Party HDDs After NAS sales plummet

wont be enough, the sales are not only plummeting because of the HDD debacle but also because their new systems simply suck, they are still using old CPUs without an iGPU so no hardware transcoding which is a huge downgrade to the previous models. the best Synology model a home user can buy is a use

Unifi Doorbell and Apple TV

Yes - I use a synology NAS for both my plex and homebrige, working well so far. I guess the unifi plugin for homebridge requires a certain amount of hardware to run smoothly (ie maybe don’t try a raspberry pi). So far the synology ds918+ is up to the task though I only have one protect camera so far

I need a Plex overhaul

This ^^^ I moved Plex Media Server from a DS918+ to an i5-10500 Ubuntu PC a couple years ago. Best move ever. No problem transcoding, burning subtitles, etc. It is a bare metal installation, no 20+ containers. Just Plex Media Server and Tautulli via Snap. Plenty of headroom should I want to add anyt

Had no idea how small the Ugreen UPS was. 🤯

Yeah agree depending could be quite different run times.. But would be nice if they put up a curve on load, I mean I doubt the nas is going to draw 120W if its not really doing anything, etc. So from my napkin math should be able to get at least 20 minutes out of it I would think.. Not exactly sure

'Ideal' Syncthing host hardware?

depending on what size and number of files you want to share your requirements are different. without that information it's impossible to tell. i have ~1.5million files i share using multiple sync folders with approximately 1.5TByte of files. I had problems with the default 4 Gbytes of RAM in a Syno

Photos overall storage solution with backups

Be careful with the performance of the DS918+. I have one, in addition to a DS1521+ and DS1621xs+. The 1621 is about four times as fast as the 918. But still not nearly as good is my setup where I have Immich running on a Minipc and the Synology NAS is just to host the storage. My Minisforum MS-01 i

VINIPLAY - Self hosted IPTV webplayer

What hardware are you self hosting on ? I deployed in a container on my Synology NAS DS918+. It cannot play any stream, no matter what options I choose in the settings. Just a bunch of ffmpeg errors.

STUCK - New Proxmox & NUC 125H w only 2x M.2 NVMe Advice.

Thx for chiming in. I thought might not be the best idea to write cams to the NVMes. I read something like just keeping snapshots and a few days events on there and record the rest to the Synology or something? No my HA and Frigate is down for this new setup. I was running and older version of Friga

Slowing down?

I have done many if not all suggestions and I think I will put it down to the slowness of the NAS even though it has a Pentium processor it seems slower than my Synology ds918. Terramaster have been pumping update on TOS7 but it hasn’t affected performance. I may still rebuild as that never hurts.

Overseerr running extremely slow

Are you running it from an HDD or NVME? I never found it usable on HDD. Much much better on NVME. I used to host it on HDD on a DS918. Unusable. I did hear people had much better experiences with it on NVME, even on Synology, but in my case it was easier to move it to my plex server. It is very smoo
