SSD's too. I bought my 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVME with a heatsink in November last year for under $200 on Amazon. That same drive is currently going for $550 plus tax 🤣

Apple has increased the Mac Studio's price.

I bought a 4 TB Samsung 990 Pro for slightly under 300 USD last winter to supplement my Mac Mini’s 256 GB SSD. That thing is now 2.5x what I paid for it. Insanity. I should’ve bought a few more sticks back then.

The AI Backlash Could Get Very Ugly

Dude, even more recent than that; similar to u/Excolo_Veritas, I bought my 2TB Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe M.2 for my Kubuntu setup back on Dec 2, 2025 for $190… the exact same listing is $430 now and they have the motherfucking gall to cross out a $640 price tag… FFS.

Gen5 worth it

No. The difference is very small and any of the gen 5 ssds that are faster than gen 4, would probably overheat faster, making it actualyl a little slower. I got the samsung 990 pro 2tb for around 370 on amazon due to prime day, which is still really expensive, but it will probably last me around 7-1

Мой ссд решил уйти на покой🫡

Короче, если хочешь прям хорошо - Samsung 870 Evo, Kingston KC600 и WD Red SA500. Это по SATA. И Samsung 980 Pro/ 990Pro/ 9100 Pro/ PM9A1/PM9F1/PM9E1, Kingston KC3000/ Fury Renegade, в т.ч. на pci-e5/ WD850X, если хочешь прям хорошие из nvme. Но это дороговато немного, да. Есть ещё кстати Seagate Ir

Thanks right wing pedophiles and their followers

I was EXTREMELY lucky to upgrade both my RAM and storage days before the prices started skyrocketing, I wasn't even on the pulse with the market then, I just happened to decide it was time. I got a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro for around £300 (which may have already been inflated for all I know,) they are no

Need opinions on my first High-End 3D/Gaming PC Build

The ChatGPT recommendation about the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB over the Gen 5 SSD makes sense, the real world speed difference is barely noticeable and you get double the storage. Also that CPU choice is... interesting for 3D work, a lot of people would say go Ryzen 9 instead.

My DXP 4800 Pro just arrived 😍

Pretty sure it is more than triple for some brands. 😵‍💫 Crazy. I got 4TB of Samsung 990 Pro NVMe in 2024 for $260 and the same brand right now is almost $1100 (4x).

Are you buying SSDs now or waiting for prices to drop?

Why didn't you jump on them last year when the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB was under $300? I told friends to get that shit while it was cheap, and picked up multiple drives myself.

How do you preserve longevity of your SSDs?

First of all, I gave up on ZFS for this very reason. First of all, ZFS itself does not cause write amplification. Wrong pool geometry (RAIDZ instead of mirror), changing volblocksize does. Maybe CoW a little bit (ZIL). But that is all negligible in a home setup. Home use here, so it is what it is. I
