The AI Backlash Could Get Very Ugly
Dude, even more recent than that; similar to u/Excolo_Veritas, I bought my 2TB Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe M.2 for my Kubuntu setup back on Dec 2, 2025 for $190… the exact same listing is $430 now and they have the motherfucking gall to cross out a $640 price tag… FFS.

Need opinions on my first High-End 3D/Gaming PC Build
The ChatGPT recommendation about the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB over the Gen 5 SSD makes sense, the real world speed difference is barely noticeable and you get double the storage. Also that CPU choice is... interesting for 3D work, a lot of people would say go Ryzen 9 instead.

My DXP 4800 Pro just arrived 😍
Pretty sure it is more than triple for some brands. 😵💫 Crazy. I got 4TB of Samsung 990 Pro NVMe in 2024 for $260 and the same brand right now is almost $1100 (4x).

How do you preserve longevity of your SSDs?
First of all, I gave up on ZFS for this very reason. First of all, ZFS itself does not cause write amplification. Wrong pool geometry (RAIDZ instead of mirror), changing volblocksize does. Maybe CoW a little bit (ZIL). But that is all negligible in a home setup. Home use here, so it is what it is. I

Record-high pricing pushes SSD and memory makers to borrow $880 million just to afford buying chips — Adata, TeamGroup, and others take on substantial debt to survive shortages
i assure you its not. Inflated WD prices is because Sandisk retired the WD name and discontinued all WD monikers like WD black. You can get other competing SSDs for significantly cheaper. Although Samsung 990 pro prices have gone wild too in the last 2 months.

How would you improve this for £300/$400?
That Samsung drive is really fast, but unless you're using it for work it's a bit pointless. Look into real world gaming performances of gen 4 vs gen 5 ssd's. Spoiler alert there's close to 0 difference. That being said you could still make an upgrade to the ssd. There are 2 nand types in ssd's, QLC

Title: Best RTX 5070 Ti model for my build + SSD recommendations?
The Asus TUF or MSI Gaming X Trio would be solid picks for your needs - both have excellent cooling and run pretty quiet while not breaking the bank with unnecessary premium features. For the SSD, skip the FireCuda 530 and grab a Samsung 990 Pro or WD SN850X instead, they're usually cheaper in Germa

$640 for a 2tb ssd…
Is this USD? They've gotten expensive, just not that expensive. My country, Belgium isn't the cheapest when it comes to hardware but that price would be more in line with the 4TB version and if you include US taxes, the 4TB version here would still be a little cheaper than the one you posted. https:

Need More Advice!
You're absolutely right about everything. However is it just to save money on switching out the SSD? I keep reading how the Samsung 990 Pro is extremely reliable, and is great for the long run. I thought maybe that made it a premium SSD which is why it is pricey.
