I have two FW13's and a £3k MacBook Pro. I am still happy to use the Lenovo T440p I got years ago for £200 (admittedly I replaced the screen, WiFI and CPU later on!). Hate is justified for the clunkpad - not because it's a bad trackpad, but because it was Lenovo's first salvo of attacks on Trackpoint users - the people who's loyalty kept ThinkPad relevant in the era of ever more svelte Apple hardware knockoffs.
