Which laptop would you choose?

There is no such thing as a ThinkPad Ideapad, just Lenovo Ideapad which is not a ThinkPad. Even my Lenovo ThinkPad T440p i5-4200M with 8GB was able to handle Fedora since 2015. Read my recommendation again.

Officially Using Zorin OS for work.

Friendly distro for a T430

On Lenovo ThinkPads, at least the Intel based ones, I have never needed to install any drivers when using Fedora.
