It’s here!!!!!! So happy

You can dual-boot Windows and Linux if you want. I'd upgrade the RAM though, 6GB will disappear very quickly in Windows. If you have the discrete graphics, you can force discrete graphics in the BIOS and get more performance (or rather, avoid cooking the CPU when videoconferencing) but the downside

Vocês são time Wayland ou Xorg? gostaria de saber a razão da escolha de vocês.

Depende do equipamento. No meu ThinkPad T430, de 2012, o Xorg roda mais liso. Se for um equipamento mais novo, o wayland pode ser uma opção melhor. Agora estou esperando pra ver o Xlibre vingar...

So, I just found out this exists and I MUST have it. Ultrabay numpad.

The E6x30 Latitudes were great machines, and I hazard they were better than the contemporary ThinkPad: keyboard was almost as good as the ThinkPad X220/T420 (and better than the T430/X230), a few of them had a decent pointing stick, they were easier to repair, didn't have BIOS whitelists and they so

T430 Screen Replacement: Looking for a Good Quality 1600x900 TN Panel (Not IPS)

I've had about 10 of these TN screens between the T420 and T430 laptops I've had/used/sold. I'm sure most responses will say how awful all these TN screens are and they are more or less correct. In my experience there are God awful ones (best described as someone having sprinkled curry powder over i

How to increase general (graphics in paticular) performance of a T430 (Read before aswering!)

"upgrade my ram to 16 GB (32 if i am dedicated enough)" You can upgrade it to 16GB (2x8GB) but 32GB (2x16GB) isn't happening nor has anyone been able to get a kit like that to work on a system older than 5th gen aka Broadwell. Given you have a dGPU I would advise sticking with an i7-3632QM. "Can i o

Is a Thinkpad T430 worth it in 2026?

For running Linux you're fine with a T430 and most older ThinkPads in general. I wouldn't go older than a T420 so that it's still plenty usable today. From there, just see what you can find that's in your budget starting with a T420 and upwards.

Rejecting Ram?

"The stick ler on the card says ddr3 (instead of ddr3l) but the listing and the rest of the specs read as they should." It shows 1.35V on the sticker which means it is DDR3L. "I tried updating the BIOS, but of course that did nothing. Any suggestions?" The kit is either DOA or bogus / fake so try to

Distro for elderly parents...

I transitioned my 80-year-old mother's ThinkPad T430 from Windows 10 to Linux Mint XFCE. (I prefer tiling WMs on Debian, MX, or Fedora for myself.) Mint works well on her old computer, can be made to look familiar, does security updates in the background, and doesn't show her too many scary-looking

[Mod Approved] We spent a year optimizing a persistent Space Sim to run on Integrated Graphics (Intel HD 4000). No download required

The legendary ThinkPad T430! That machine is a tank, and honestly, the i5-3320m / HD 4000 combo is the ultimate test for our WebGL optimization. Since you are running Fedora/KDE, you are in a great positions to give us some very specific feedback. Linux Firefox sometimes needs a little 'nudge' for W

What laptop is good for a Linux beginner?

Get a plain vanilla business class laptop, like the ThinkPad T, or X series machines. Mind, ThinkPads aren't the only game in town, but they do tend to be well supported and they tend to be more rugged. Someone mentioned the T420, which is quite old by now and only has USB 2.0 ports. I like them and
