Most photographers don’t need better gear, they need better taste
If you have no skills, you’re still likely to take lousy photos whether you have $100 worth of gear or $20,000 worth of gear. Once you have a certain level of skill, lower quality gear can absolutely hold you back, especially if you’re shooting fast-moving subjects or in low light. Sports photograph

Lumix s5m2 high res mode vs canon r5m2 45mp
"left canon, right Lumix" This is just mind blowing. To all who purchased the(I purchased S5iiX) S5ii or S5iiX, you are really smart. The feature of being able to do 96MP raw file is what closed it for me. Just use that tripod you purchased years ago, the raw files are insane in detail. I purchased

Just some pictures from my new camera of my neighborhood murder
for the photo nerds (and myself because I don't have many people to infodump this too that would appreciate it) I was on the crop sensor Canon R7 with the Sigma c 150-600mm originally, upgrade the lens to the Canon 100-500mm last year and while I loved how much faster and lighter it was, the loss of

Canon inbody focus stacking
No, R6iii can't focus bracket with flash. This is a big issue with the majority of Canon bodies. Only the ones with stacked sensors (just the R1, R3, and R5ii for now I believe?) are fast enough to sync with flash. You basically answered your own question about OM system bodies. They can focus brack

Advice wanted
Lovely set, keep doing this. Mark’s post-production relies heavily on the fact that he’s shooting Sony. There’s a TON of shadow retention in Sony sensors, and you can push them in post to a much higher degree than Canon, probably Nikon as well even though some of those bodies use Sony sensors. That’

Missing Fuji lately and hoping the af has a big improvement on the xt6.
I believe AF upgrade is coming since a while back in FujiRumors there was an article about Yuji Igarashi-san himself stating that they will try to improve the AF in the current Gen one last time through firmware while also having improvements on the next Gen. Problem is if they won't screw it up aga

Would you buy a future camera body with AI features?
If it's a tool for doing the same thing I always do (autofocus, auto exposure) then I don't care, if it's AI-ing on the images then I wish they'd leave it to be done in post. I think Canon's choice to add AI noise reduction and upscaling in their new cameras is pointless, but it shouldn't get in the

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! March 20, 2026
Yes. It was an old feature in Canon's EOS 3 but it didn't always work so well back then. Canon has now brought it back with a much improved version in the R1, R3, and R5 Mark II.

Is the Z5ii really that good, or is it just all hype?
Unsurprisingly, seeing as many higher-end cameras are now going with stacked sensors that typically have worse DR than non-stacked ones. (Well, the Z9/Z8 and Z6iii have worse dynamic range. The Sony a1/a1ii and Canon R5mk2 appear to mostly avoid this issue somehow.)
