I need new knives

Buy a good 8-inch chef's knife. Henkle or Wusthof have some affordable versions. easy to keep sharp if taken care of properly.

How to sharpen wusthof classic knives? Can I buy the wustof classic ikon hand held? I know its a 14° blade but im not sure how to achieve a 14° angle manually sharpening.

There is a Wustof Classic Ikon line of knives. I have the 8 inch Chef's Knife I linked. It's wonderful having the half bolster without having to pay the higher price of the Ikon series with their wood handles.

What expensive thing is absolutely worth the money?

If you are a chef/cook/prep cook? Good knives. Sadly, an 8 inch Wusthof chefs knife is around 200 dollars now. Spend the money on a proper diamonte sharpening steel and a good honing steel.

What knives are worth the extra buck? What price range is beyond stupid?

Call me a cheapskate, but I’ve paid what I consider top dollar for some knives that have performed at a mediocre level. I’ve bought others at a bargain basement price that have outperformed the expensive ones. Right now, one of the best deals I’ve seen on Amazon is an eight inch chef’s knife from Me

What to buy!!

I am sure this will come as no surprise but knife sets are usually not really that good of a deal. I have like 500 bucks in wusthof knives but I only use 2 a 8 inch chefs and a 4 inch chefs knife. Then from there you can expand to what you need. There are a bunch of knives in those sets that you wil

What brand of knives would you fellas recommend

Depending on your needs, you really don’t need a knife “set” and you definitely shouldn’t get those sets in the knife block. They are usually not that great of quality and you end up not using most of the knives. I would recommend starting with one 8 inch long chef’s knife. It can be all purpose and

Which one is the best option for an all-round chefs knifé for a home cook: Japanese Gyuto or German?

probably any ikon version if the Wusthof 6-inch and/or 8-inch chef's knife some people prefer the Wusthof Santoku since it's easier to use for the wife and kids and being an inch short it's easier to handle I think once someone has a knife set, and they are okay with very delicate and very sharp bla

Can anyone recommend a brand of chef knife?

My Wusthof classic 8" French knife is still amazing 28 years after purchase. Simple, reasonably priced workhorse. https://wusthof.ca/products/classic-chefs-knife-20-cm-8-inch?variant=40433824792643

Goddamit

I have the wusthof classic ikon in 8 and 10 inch, love the handles and no bolster. They are expensive though. I probably should have just saved money and got a Mercer, but I listened to chef.
