Help with choosing a NAS

I have little experience with QNAP NAS solutions—I have one of their switches and it's great—but I do have a DXP8800 Plus and for your needs, UGOS should be fine. UGREEN also will continue to support the hardware if you install a different OS on it (e.g., TrueNAS, Unraid, Ubuntu Server, etc.).

It's better build a nas or buy it

I bought an UGreen DXP8800 Plus, I figured I couldn't build an 8 bay pc with that kind of spec and use as little power in a compact form. Yet I can still install any OS I want on it as it's just an x86-64 pc at the end of the day. So it's happily running Proxmox now

Decade-old Xpenology running DSM 6.2 gave up the ghost and I'm in a time crunch. What are my options?

Exactly. See comparison between UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Plus and DS1825+ here. You can use Xpenology on Aoostar NAS. Or on your own build/hardware. Whatever you choose. I would highly recommend ARC loader since it's modern, versatile and easy to use. Take a look at it's FAQ and you'll see. IMHO whatev

Nas Ugreen DXP2800. Problem Hdd WD Red Plus and Iron Wolf !

I’ve never heard that before. I have all HDD bays populated on my UGreen DXP8800 Plus and both M.2 slots populated as well. No issues.

How is UGOS working for you?

DXP8800 plus, w 64gb and 2 nvme added. It’s superb hardware, UGOS is perfect for my needs. It’s also Debian under the hood. Install tmux via dpkg, used rsync to move data from my Synology 1621. Expanded raid to 8 x 18tb from 5 drives to start. Used portalner, deployed stacks for plex, *arr, nignx, p

Any new models coming from Ugreen? I need a NAS with 8 drive bays

I am not sure if they will release new models as the current ones are from last year. So I am running a DXP8800 Plus with 8x 2.5" SATA SSDs from Samsung and I am very happy to moved from a Synology DS1821+ to the Ugreen NAS.

4-bay (DXP4800 Plus) or 6-bay (DXP6800 Pro)? Price vs performance?

I too have used a Synology DS1815+ for a number of years. It was quite stable but its Atom C2000 series SOC was always an underpowered disappointment. I then upgraded to a QNAP TS-653D 6 bay (Intel Celeron J4125 quad-core) which was much more capable. When the UGreen Kickcstarter started I sourced a

Finally part of the UGreen Family!

Very nice indeed! I have the same UGreen DXP8800 Plus but it was sourced through the original Kickstarter via a pledge a little under ~$1000 USD. I started off with three 14TB and three 16TB WD Red drives that I already had. I also added a couple of NVMe SSD of 512GB capacity that are now 1TB. In ad

What do you refer to when saying "non-Synology NAS"? For DSM an original SA6400 and a UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Plus with ARC loader on it posing as SA6400 are indistinguishable from one another. That's the beauty of Xpenology.

Nas Ugreen DXP2800. Problem Hdd WD Red Plus and Iron Wolf !

There were a number of times my UGreen DXP8800 Plus could not detect a drive properly. Each time I knew the drives were fully functional because they were just pulled from a QNAP TS-653D NAS. The drives in question were WD Red (CMR) 16TB. The issue stems from UGOS Pro not being able to use HDD that
