Torn between Terramaster F4-424 Pro vs Ugreen DX4800 Plus
I owned the 4800 plus for about a year and loved it. I don't know as much about the F4 424 pro. It looks like the ugreen is about $100 cheaper at the moment, which you could use to load up the ram. I don't know about the terramaster but with the 4800 plus, if you decide to use a third-party OS, you

Entertainment Prepping
If you're asking about a ttrpg to start, I don't think anyone would go wrong with buying a dungeons and dragons 5th edition starter set. If you meant for a media server that depends on how much you're willing to tinker and build. Off the shelf bang for your buck ready to go(doesn't include drives)?

I need help ingesting and storing ~5tb's of photos.
As someone else suggested it sounds like your DAS should be faster so you may be able to solve that. If you did want to go the NAS route there are options for all flash storage or a mix of flash and HDDs. I'm using a Terramaster F4-424 Pro which supports 2 M.2s and 4 3.5" HDDs plus 2.5GB ethernet fo

Those of you that bought a mini PC to "upgrade" the horsepower of an aging NAS: are you happy with your mini PC? Now that the dust has settled, what, if anything, would you do differently?
I've been fairly happy with it. The hardest part, for me atleast, is setting up the docker container repositories to access the NAS files. I'm still in the process of the transfer (my time is limited) but I planned doing this from the beginning. I'm just a novice and have to get over the learning cu

Best ~$450 diskless NAS for Jellyfin transcoding + lots of containers? (coming from DS220+)
Personally I like to recommend Terramaster/UGreen models as you can run your own OS. You want something with an Intel N100 type chip (N95, N150, N300) as they have very modern iGPUs that can handle most formats. They lack AV1 hardware encoding but do have AV1 decoding so can transcode the latest and

Is it better to get a powerful NAS or pair a weaker NAS with a separate machine for hosting services?
My main NAS is a Terramaster F4-424 Pro so its 4 Bay and rocks the N305 (N100s big brother) and has 32GB of RAM. I actually planned to buy the non pro which has a N100 (or maybe N95) and 8GB of RAM but when I went to buy there was a sale on so I treated myself to the Pro lol. I run Open Media Vault

Good NAS device to use as a media server plex/jellyfin?
If Terramaster 424 is in your price range then it's a decent shout. The N95 CPU has a modern capable iGPU for and transcoding needs. I'm using it's bigger brother the F4 424 Pro which has the N300 but ultimately the same iGPU. I ditched TOS for Open Media Vault straight away. I run the OS and applic

Any Recommendations? Overwhelmed by options
Came here to suggest TerraMaster. I'm running a F4 424 Pro but the non Pro is likely more than powerful enough for your use case. I do run it with OpenMediaVault so can't comment on TerraMasters own OS. As general NAS advice I would suggest grabbing a 4 bay rather than saving a bit of money on a 2 b

F4-424 Pro PCI lanes and NVME question
Digging into the hardware architecture, we were able to see that these are PCIe Gen 3×2 architecture, which was to be expected given the 8 (technically 9) lanes of PCIe afforded to the N300 CPU. This means that you will halve the speed of any PCIe Gen 3×4 SSDs that you install in these bays, which i
