Torn between Terramaster F4-424 Pro vs Ugreen DX4800 Plus

The Terramaster F4-424 Pro with 2 HDDs, 2 SSDs and 2 NVMEs. Runs TrueNas Scale. TrueNas is a bit fiddly but overall quite pleased with result. I did notice that one drive near the CPU gets hotter, likely due to the CPU cooling element being close by.

Entertainment Prepping

If you're asking about a ttrpg to start, I don't think anyone would go wrong with buying a dungeons and dragons 5th edition starter set. If you meant for a media server that depends on how much you're willing to tinker and build. Off the shelf bang for your buck ready to go(doesn't include drives)?

Looking for a pre-built 8HDD server to run Unraid. Anyone recommend UGREEN or TerraMaster?

I have the Terramaster F4-424 Pro. Similar use case to yours I’d guess; Plex, *arrs, etc. with a couple of additional containers for this and that. I don’t know that I’d say “plug in the USB and go” is truly accurate, but I am new to unRAID, so take what I’m saying with a small grain of salt at leas

Unraid OS 7.2.1 Now Available

2x Terramaster (F4-424 Pro and F6-424 with lots of docker containers and running an array of all disks each) running on 7.14 almost flawlessly upgraded to 7.2.1. I only need to remove the /boot/config/dashboard_setting.json to get the dashboard to three columns.

When choosing a NAS, how much should hardware matter vs software ecosystem?

I use a Terramaster F4-424 pro with Unraid. Still very happy with the decision. Small, efficient, simple to set up hardware wise. Also near silent with some CPU adjustments. (As long as HDDs are not spinning ofc). Unraid also clearly is easy enough for a noob like myself.

Those of you that bought a mini PC to "upgrade" the horsepower of an aging NAS: are you happy with your mini PC? Now that the dust has settled, what, if anything, would you do differently?

I've been fairly happy with it. The hardest part, for me atleast, is setting up the docker container repositories to access the NAS files. I'm still in the process of the transfer (my time is limited) but I planned doing this from the beginning. I'm just a novice and have to get over the learning cu

I have two Terramasters on Unraid, F4-424 Pro and F6-424. They run just fine. Install the Dynamics plugins a you are all set. Tip: use the same USB what come with the Terramaster systems, they last longer I was told. No BIOS fiddling needed.

Would these be suitable to setup a very beginners NAS?

Terramaster (also check out UGreen) makes actual NAS devices in the same form factor as that DAS so you could just get an all in one unit rather than an old used PC and dealing with a USB DAS. It is pretty easy to run your own OS on it if you are looking for more software flexibility but you can sti

Low idle power consumption NAS / home server

Get a TerraMaster F4-424 Pro, swap out the internal boot USB stick and you can install your desired OS
