Why are NAS systems still a niche thing
The Synology DiskStation DS124 (a home NAS) is at 200 euro.it supports 1 drive, so if that drive fails you are roasted.a 1TB samsung SSD is around 200 euro.so 400 euro with no failsafe. The Synology DS725+ (anjother home nas) is at 550 euro.it takes 2 disks, so one is a failsafe backup of the other.

Autobackup between NAS's
I'm happy I could help! If you keep both your NAS devices up and running and online, yes, you can access them whenever you want from wherever. A strong password, 2FA and you shouldn't have to worry about anything. The DS224+ might seem like a good model, but it has an outdated Intel Celeron J4125 CP

Everyone has one "I should've bought this sooner" purchase. What's yours?
My (DS725+ Synology) NAS. So many things it can do and service and so easily - I could have save years of evenings spending to find out or implement things. (Network storage, backup, DNS /adblocker, Home Assistant server, Domoticz, (Mobile) photo service & sync, etc.

upgrading to DS725+ - but how about HDD
This is a consumer model and you can use non-Synology drives for it, no problem. Lots of people do. They do list their own drives on the compatibility list (see link), but say you can use third-party ones too. The drive restriction was abolished on these NAS models because the community did not take

DS920+ upgrade to i3-n305 on Xpeonology
I run Xpenology for almost a year now. The most important thing to remember is the update process (incremental updates are fine, 7.3 to 7.4 for example are not). It's important to know if a new update will work with Xpenology first. That said, I kept it simple; my Xpenology VM runs within Truenas (I

Replacing Ugreen DXP2800 vs Synology DS725+ due to safety concerns?
If you don't need remote access, you can lock this down with no problems (I think the service is called u green link or something like that and you can disable it). Or install Truenas. Synology DSM is an awesome operating system, but you didn't indicate that you want to change your nas because you w

Replacing Ugreen DXP2800 vs Synology DS725+ due to safety concerns?
Unlikely I would need it unless I work remotely outside of UK (which happens sometimes). I haven't properly started moving all my stuff to Ugreen due to the worries above. Also maybe not a big deal but DS725+ has an expansion unit and 2 RAM slots instead of 1 as Ugreen?I understand the CPU is shiet

Significant changes to Time Machine coming in MacOS 27?
DS725+ ... I'm thinking of selling it (even though it's only a few months old) and getting something that can run TrueNAS, mainly because it is more open and has REST API so I can get Claude to manage the settings etc. I found it kinda tedious using the confusing Synology GUI , but they don't have a
