I do need transcoding Then avoid Synology NAS for your Plex server. No current units natively support transcoding, though there is a hacker patch that makes that work on the DS225+ and DS425+. Instead, use a properly specd mini PC to run Plex and all your docker containers. You can store your media

Synology DS425+. I have one and it works great for what I need. I installed 4x 12TB Seagate Ironwolf HDDs, and I use it for Time Machine backups, Plex, and surveillance cameras footage for 8 Eufy cams.

No. Synology deliberately removed the drivers for the DS425+ and DS225+ to save a tiny amount of money on licensing fees. The only Synology device that still has the drives is the BeeStation Plus. You can install the missing drivers with https://github.com/007revad/Transcode_for_x25 You can run it fro

Synology removed the drivers needed for transcoding, in the only 2 current models that have an iGPU: The DS425+ and DS225+. You can install the required drives with https://github.com/007revad/Transcode_for_x25 But then there's the issue of 25+ models officially only working with Synology brand drives

The DS425+ and DS925+ do not officially support hardware transcoding due to a Synology business decision.

I’ve used Synology since 2011 or so with Macs; they work perfectly. I would strongly recommend them - easy to use, reasonably fast for what they are, and lots of flexibility in them. Yes, out of the box the 2025 models (DS425+, etc. with 25 in the name) require Syno-branded disks. This is either a g

Because there are no camera on the market right now that has 60GB raw files, I'll assume you meant 60MB per file. So if we max out at 300 sessions with 10 files for a year, that less then 200GB a year. The cheap one : DS423, network of 1Gbps, buy 2 drives of 20TB on the Compatibility list 3rd party,

I got the DS425+ to replace my DS220J Deliberated between the UGreen DXP4800 and the 425+, but preferred the Synology since I know the software and don't want to invest time in re-learning it, as my use cases are mainly for storage and Photos - Started to ran out of space on my DS220J (Which now wil

https://kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/tutorial/What_kind_of_CPU_does_my_NAS_have Your data is wrong; the DS425+ uses the same older J4125 as the others. I love my DS423+ - 4x20TB, 2xSSDs for docker and download/rar/par activity, and it’s in one tiny little box that handles Plex & many friends, other home auto
