What’s the best nas I could get as a beginner?

Synology DS425+. I have one and it works great for what I need. I installed 4x 12TB Seagate Ironwolf HDDs, and I use it for Time Machine backups, Plex, and surveillance cameras footage for 8 Eufy cams.

Looking for a NAS for a Plex/Jellyfin server

I run Jellyfin on my Synology DS920+ NAS. IMO, only Synology's plus series of NAS devices (with a GPU) are suitable for a consumer grade Jellyfin server. Among the latest models, only the DS425+ has the GPU needed for Jellyfin hardware transcoding - - that's probably the NAS I'd get if I bought one

Running Plex directly on an NAS or off my Computer

If you're buying a NAS, the point is not to tie your Mac to it; reboot your Mac and you don't want people dropping from movie watching, do you? Buy PlexPass. That's $250. The people suggesting Intel NAS generally have purchased Plexpass. Buy a NAS with an Intel iGPU. Let's assume that's a DS425+. Th

Festplatte

My First Plex Server: So Many Options, So Little Knowledge

Yes, which is why it's pointless to have both. Get the Synology DS425+, get 2 22TB drives, plug it all in, download and install Plex, setup a drive share on the Synology for (for example) /media, copy your shows from (Mac) to /media via your network, point Plex (running on Synology) to /media, and p

Need some advice on NAS and streaming

The Synology DS223 can be used for media playback, but its CPU isn't as powerful as the next model up. I would personally step up to the DS224+, DS225+ or DS425+ since they both have CPU's with transcoding abilities which can allow for smoother playback on more devices, regardless of the video file

Do i need transcoding?

Just stopping by in October 2025 to say thank you. I’m looking into my first NAS and will run Plex (and only Plex, I don’t need a virtual machine capabilities or anything). Looks like a Synology DS425+ will be good enough for my use case.

First NAS for photos/video, Plex/Jellyfin, remote access & multi-user — 2-bay vs 4-bay advice?

Consumers lashing back. They did two things anti consumer. 1.) Forced the use of their approved hard drives (now reversed) 2.) removed the drivers for the integrated graphics in the DS225+ and DS425+ so there is no hardware transcode which it sounds like you’ll need. I’m in the same boat as you; res

[B0T] Weekly Build Help Thread - 2025/07/28

It is difficult to recommend running Plex on a NAS such as the DS425+ It has a low power, outdated CPU, the Celeron J4125. That model was introduced in 2019 and is discontinued. Without a Plex Pass it will struggle to transcode 1080p. With a Plex Pass and using hardware accelerated transcoding, it w
