DS220+ for Immich: Is It Enough?
I recently installed Immich on my DS225+ but experience should be roughly the same for the 220. Most important is a RAM upgrade. After launching Immich for the first time with the stock 2GB it rendered the whole NAS unusable, as the Swap mechanism was constantly trying to swap parts of the RAM onto

Need some advice on NAS and streaming
The Synology DS223 can be used for media playback, but its CPU isn't as powerful as the next model up. I would personally step up to the DS224+, DS225+ or DS425+ since they both have CPU's with transcoding abilities which can allow for smoother playback on more devices, regardless of the video file

What are y'all buying for today's Singles day sales
Synology ds225+ with 2x 12 tb hdds. It was a steal at $700 with the enclosure itself already around $580 at other shops. Unfortunately the ds255+ still comes with an older procesor and no m2 slots. but a Plex Media Server, it will do its job.

sinology to Ugreen?
Bought a new DS225+ to replace my dead DS220+. I then decided the Ugreen 2800 was a better value. From the all metal case (built like a tank), to 4x more ram, better processor, two M.2 slots, etc. It's just better in almost every way from what I can tell. Currently migrating the data from the Synolo

Do I even need a NAS?
Lots of good opinions here, and here's mine from someone who's been doing network storage for over 2 decades. Get yourself a NAS with an x64 based CPU. Avoid ARM based devices.I recommend Synology for their mature software advantage, which will be less of a hassle for user access, data sharing, and

First NAS for photos/video, Plex/Jellyfin, remote access & multi-user — 2-bay vs 4-bay advice?
Consumers lashing back. They did two things anti consumer. 1.) Forced the use of their approved hard drives (now reversed) 2.) removed the drivers for the integrated graphics in the DS225+ and DS425+ so there is no hardware transcode which it sounds like you’ll need. I’m in the same boat as you; res

What am I looking for?
I'm also a beginner when it comes to NAS and after my 10TB external died I kind of lost interest in large storage but then I was like why don't I just invest in storage that will last and I can backup. Thats when i started looking into NAS devices. Theres a bunch of brands Synology, Asustor, QNAP, U

Newbie Looking For Help Selecting
Get yourself either a 2-bay Synology DS225+ or a UGreen DXP2800, and forget about changing the OS idea. And if your budget allows it, consider the 4-bay boxes like the DS925+ or the DXP4800. The extra bays allow you to expand your storage later. The choice between these brands hinges on whether you

NAS Suggestion
I guess it depends on your problem space. I don't want/need another photo browser. I use iCloud / Apple Photos for that. I just want a reliable backup of my (family's) photos in an automated fashion, and for that, PhotoSync is more than enough. I don't see any situation in the future where I would b

How to simulate low-end machine?
I'm looking for Synology DS225+ (Intel J4125) at a beginner NAS. The CPU seems outdated based on my personal experience.
