A synology DS124 runs about 150$ on newegg. Pair that with a 12tb Seagate ironwolf for about 370$ on newegg as well. This solution will meet your main goals of a good backup, easy integration, and no frills. The notable downsides are no frills and no scalability. But it will be a decent NAS for 500$

Probably the cheapest solution, if you insist on an on premise solution, would be to purchase a simple 1-bay NAS, like a Synology DS124, and use that.
