Why are NAS systems still a niche thing
The Synology DiskStation DS124 (a home NAS) is at 200 euro.it supports 1 drive, so if that drive fails you are roasted.a 1TB samsung SSD is around 200 euro.so 400 euro with no failsafe. The Synology DS725+ (anjother home nas) is at 550 euro.it takes 2 disks, so one is a failsafe backup of the other.

Where Do I Start?
I know it will go against the accepted setup in this sub but for your usage I would go with a Synology DS124 single bay drive. You can currently order one from Walmart for $150 bucks according to their website so this would give you more leeway to spend on a bigger hard drive. They’ve got 20TB for $

Beginner NAS setup for lab data (~10–12TB, $500 budget) — prebuilt vs DIY?
A synology DS124 runs about 150$ on newegg. Pair that with a 12tb Seagate ironwolf for about 370$ on newegg as well. This solution will meet your main goals of a good backup, easy integration, and no frills. The notable downsides are no frills and no scalability. But it will be a decent NAS for 500$

Autobackup between NAS's
'My thought process was that, if you want to get a new NAS, why not get one that has all the essentials covered?' I appreciate the feedback, given I still have no issues with my 7 year old DS119j, outside of possibly doing with some more space, I think I do still have all my essentials covered. ;-)

Best options for home network drive?
I bought a Synology DS124 NAS recently and it was pretty easy to set up and works well for my simple network storage and backup needs.

Backup advice needed – 40 GB personal folder, Windows 11, OneDrive + local backup options
Yeah, I'd go with a NAS and an inexpensive, small SSD drive, such as this 256 GB Patriot for under $18.99. $149 for a one-bay Synology DS124 (B & H is an excellent source!). It has 2 USB ports on the back. You can use the built in Synology backup software to back up the NAS to USB flash drives for o

Looking for advice: Off-site backup system
Probably the cheapest solution, if you insist on an on premise solution, would be to purchase a simple 1-bay NAS, like a Synology DS124, and use that. It's literally designed to sit in a corner and require little to no maintenance (assuming you enable automatic updates). Another option, also from Sy
