It all depends on what you are wanting to do. While there are a lot of people that have shunned Synology, it is still a solid ecosystem and very reliable/stable. My DS1019 has been running steady since I got it. I'm also considering getting another Synology to keep the ecosystem and demote the 1019

If you don't want to tinker by yourself and convenience is your main goal, then Synology might be your choice. With the latest release of DSM 7.3 they reversed back the policy of not supporting 3rd party drives, so you are free to use any drives you want. Software is matured and updated regularly. J
