How do ya'll manage redundancy and backups

At 50TB, my media collection isn't easily replaceable with simply having Sonarr, Radarr, and Lidarr installed. I can't imagine how many hours I've put in building custom collections while also sometimes designing my own custom collection posters. Or how many versions of an old TV Show I've acquired

(Rumor) 3rd party hard drives to be allowed in mid October

Same here, with my DS1019+. What's to say Synology won't pull this kind of thing again.

My 8-year-old DS918+ just died

I just got alerts of 5 disks crashing Saturday 3am. Ordered a new PSU immediately and ran L3 spinrite on each disk, no read or write issues. It was the PSU brick yet again. Plugged the new one in today and 4/5 happy disks, array is being rebuilt as we speak. DS1019+ is 6yrs old, I believe this is PS

How Reliable Are They?

Make sure you're following the 3-2-1 rule of backups, if your data is important at all. For what it's worth, my Synology units (DS414, DS1019+) have both been extremely reliable. The power supply died on the DS414 so I swapped it for a new one. Besides making sure the hard drives are healthy, they a

Fed up with Google Drive, looking to build a home server for photo backup

I’ve been using a Synology DS1019+ (5-bay and ability to expand to another 5) for the past 6 years. I primarily use it for 45GB of Plex media on a SHR (Synology’s RAID with 1-drive fault tolerance). I disliked their photo implementation a few years back and haven’t tried it since. My trouble was tha

Similar turnkey solution to Synology

I used a synology ds1019+ for a number of years mainly as a media server for myself and family. I just completed migrating over to Unraid server. It isn’t turnkey because you need to either build a PC or convert a PC but it is way more capable. There is a great community behind it that is always dev

Stupid question

I’m running a Synology DS1019+ NAS, with 5 Seagate Ironwolf 10TB drives. It’s designed for 4K streaming/transcoding. I run Plex, Surveillance Station, store all my movies, TV shows, backup all my music, photos, and PC backups. It’s been running since Feb. 2019, 24/7, without issues. It even emails m

In view of recent news of drive restrictions, will Synology's time-tested, stable and refined OS and reliable security make you stay?

Nope… I own a DS1019+ with the DX Extension Bay and then several J models as my onsite backups for the DS1019+ with the Extension. I will not cast off the old equipment, but done buying their equipment to be forced into their high priced drives. I get their desire for the “Appliance” brand but they
