Yes, that can happen. Had a 980 Pro, that showed as healthy in CDI as well, but as it was benchmarking around 400MB/s read, 200MB/s write, it clearly had degraded, so I got it exchanged through the Samsung 5 year full warranty on SSDs.

Samsung has a 5 year full hardware warranty on most of their SSDs, especially the Pro models. Got my 3½ years old 980 Pro replaced directly from them last year, whole process took about a week. :)
