What’s a good older laptop for Linux?

Lenovo Thinkpad P53 - they were often used as graphics workstations and are available with 4k monitors despite their age

BME mérnökinfóra vagy ELTE proginfóra milyen erős laptop kell?

Nem, mert ezer tab a browserben, docker konténerek, virtualbox mindenféle minden eszi a ramot. MSI of 10+ years died.

I’d avoid a gaming laptop if you don’t do much gaming TBH. A Dell Precision or Lenovo P Series will be much better for civil engineering and still be able to game a bit. Most of them have enough VRAM to handle most games, but will work especially well with AutoCAD Civil, InRoads, HECRAS, etc. Source

Considering buying a P53

I bought the Lenovo ThinkPad P53 in this constallation --> i7-9850H 32GB 512GB SSD NVIDIA RTX3000. Strong points are: The Notebook is powerful and durable. I can have multiple programms open without problems and the baby of a friend at some point walked on top of the Notebook (it was closed) and not

Running Single Node OpenShift (SNO/OKD) on Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 with Proxmox

First, make sure you have enough RAM, cores and disk space. I used to run SNO with VMware workstation on a Lenovo P53 and was still able to work, but the fans were running at max. speed. Was OK. Now I run it with KVM on an old HP Z820. Feels way snapier than the on-prem clusters at work. If you meet

Help in Portugal

check ebay and classified portals in other EU countries, namely Germany. As long as it is in the EU there's no tax/customs headaches, and shipping is reasonable if you don't need speedy. Buy PT keyboard on Aliexpress, swap it out. Something reasonably performant like an 8th Gen quadcore with a dGPU

On my hands and knees, begging somebody to just tell me which ThinkPad model to buy.

Yeah for sure! On background, the reason I keep mentioning Dells is because, especially if you're looking at used machines, they tend to be a little bit of a better deal. Dell's new store is also slightly easier to navigate and their pricing is clearer, I personally find. This becomes truer the newe

Which model to buy?

T480 now is more like for web browsing and some light tasks. It just gets old. Why you don't want soldered ram? With T480 the true upside is thr dual battery config with up to 96 Wh. And what budget are we talking? Lenovo owns thinkpad much, much longer that 8th gen. Well, if you want to now buy one
