On my hands and knees, begging somebody to just tell me which ThinkPad model to buy.

My current main personal computer is a Dell Latitude 7490. It's been the best computer I've ever had. At ~6-7ish years old it still gets ~3-4ish hours of battery life, it can run off a DC barrel jack or USB-C power, and it meets the requirements for Windows 11. There's hundreds of them on eBay with

Should I join the church of Thinkpad.

What kind of specs and/or overall vibes/priorities are you looking at? Not all ThinkPads are fully internally flexible. Some T14S machines and many X-series machines have soldered RAM, which isn't necessarily bad if you're aware and plan up front. I usually recommend Intel 8th gen for the quad-cores

Need recommendations for cheap (under $300) laptop win11

I'm with u/and1metal: go for an off-lease (FB Marketplace) or refurbished business laptop, a Thinkpad or Dell Latitude. I believe Win 11 requires at least an 8th generation Intel i7/i5 and TPM (Trusted Platform Module 2.0). I'm partial to Dell Latitudes, currently typing this out on a Latitude 7490

Looking for a budget upgrade from a T470s.

yeah for sure! Honestly, my personal laptop right now is only one generation newer than T470, a Dell Latitude 7490. (And, I have a 5580 and a surface laptop 1 both with 7300U in them) I have a couple machines the same age/generation as the T470 and can say that even one generation forward (like to D

Mac or windows for cyber security

If you’re studying cybersecurity, I’d lean toward Windows or Linux over macOS. Most tools, labs, and certifications like CCNA and CompTIA assume a Windows or Linux environment, and you’ll have a much easier time setting up virtual machines and running network analysis tools. You also don’t need a de

PC Advice

I bought a Class A Refurb Dell Latitude 7490 for $350 from Newegg 2 1/2 years ago and it's been fine, and still using it daily.I just replaced the battery for $22, and upgraded the NVME hard drive, but NVME drive was not required, I just wanted a faster drive, which really didn't make much of a spee

Best old gen thinkpad that are not super expensive upgradable looking to buy my first one?

+1 on the #80 series as a minimum baseline for modern daily usage. T480, T490, E480, E490, L-series would probably also be decently good. Some of these families have 2/3/5 series options (e.g. X280) for bigger and smaller but 14 is historically a decent compromise. (look for intel 8-series CPUs) #70

Does laptop age and model matter in programmin?

My friend do what you like but idk what sort of work you can do with 8gb of ram on a dual core processor. you can often find a refurbished Dell Latitude 7490 or ThinkPad T480. These have quad-core processors (double the power) and are much easier to upgrade to 16GB or 32GB of RAM. Keep in mind the x

Buying advice: upgrading from T450 (~$350-$500 price range)

With apologies for longposting: The pretty normal baseline is to recommend machines with Intel 8th gen i5s or better/newer. (That's a little older than I see some other people recommending.) If your current T450 is more or less fast enough for what you're doing then a T480/T490 (or E/L series or Lat
