Can't go wrong with either. I use the (much older) EOS R for a lot of the family and portrait work I do, and I find its 32MP resolution to be a nice little bump over the 20MP to 24MP sensors I've used previously, but it's not a huge difference. I'd personally spend the extra for the R6 III if I were

Personally, I would get the R6 MK II in your scenario. The EOS R is, as you noted, basically the same camera as your 5D MK IV but with slightly better AF and only one card slot. The R6 MK II will give you a second card slot, vastly superior AF, and IBIS. The body is about the same size as the R btw.

u/CnelAurelianoBuendia the 2018 Canon EOS R's internals are primarily derived from the 2016 Canon EOS 5D Mark IV that is turning 10 in 1/2 year's time. EOS R6 Mark III was released 4 months ago. So the jump in tech is over 9 years. I'm experienced 2009 dSLR body vs 2024 mirrorless body and the impro

I don’t know if you already bought a camera but I am in a similar boat. I used to do semi-professional photography while in graduate school where I bought the Canon EOS R used about half a year before the R6 and R5 were launched. The lenses that I shoot on are the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art and 85mm 1.4 Art

Canon R5 and R6 for like 99% of the paid work I do and then a Fuji X100VI for fun (and sometimes paid work). I sold off most of my Nikon gear before switching to the canon R series, but kept my D700 and some primes for nostalgia reasons (and it still makes great photos). I love most of what my mirro

Until you’ve used better cameras and see the difference for yourself, you will always think you don’t need to upgrade. As someone who went from a canon R6 to Komodo 6k the difference is night and day.

I'm not sure about Canon having big holes in their camera lineup. The R10 is a very handy amateur camera, suitable for shooting almost anything. The R7 is currently a weak point, as it is somewhat buggy and has questionable ergonomics. But the R8 isn't even an amateur camera, it's rather a compact,
