mixing through a mono mixcube -- game changer

100 up votes!! Especially if it's an Auratone and not the avantone.

I’ve mixed one of my tracks from my ep in mono then switched over to stereo and wow!

You're not wrong, although people who use the mono trick with a single Auratone or Avantone are well aware of this and they compensate for it. But it's kind of the opposite of your point. Someone who uses a frequency limited speaker like this is doing it precisely so they don't overly rely on sounds

Hi I'm Logan, owner of Panama Sound a small home-based project studio. AMA!

Well, it's funny but I don't have any acoustic treatment here. Some people think that's crazy, but this also has to serve as a livable home. I have Kali Audio LP-6 monitors and I use Sennheiser HD600 for headphones.... but the secret weapon is the Avantone Mixcube (it reveals all the places in the m

I bought a pair of Avantone Mixcubes but I believe the real magic is in using one. On that note -- for ~$20 you can get a Stereo-to-Mono summing box on Amazon which folds to mono before it goes to your Auratone. If you want to spend $20 for the convenience of not hitting the mono button in your DAW.

How do engineers get mixes that translate between different systems?

Mixing in headphones or normal monitors never gave me mixes that translated, then I discovered Auratones/Avantones, the little mid-weighted cube speakers you see in photos of studios. Now my mixes translate to everything from monitors to cellphones to home stereos to car stereos. Mixing with proper

Anyone Using Auratones?

It's definitely worth having some small speakers to check mixes on. Doesn't particularly matter if they're auratones or avantones or radio shack.

mixing through a mono mixcube -- game changer

see I thought this but I don't believe it anymore. The frequency response plots (ironic to even consider the mixcube worthy of such analysis) are terrible. And it's a grotbox I get it, but there are huge resonances from 5Khz and up. The plot I saw (I'll link it) has about a 13db difference from 4 to

My home studio (accidentally deleted the last post ha)

For the mains I use Focal 65’s with a ProSonus Temblor T10 sub (probably going with the Focul Sub6 soon) and the others to check mixes I use the Avantone Pro mixcubes.

Anyone Using Auratones?

Those are better than Avantones and possibly better than the Auratone reissues I have. I've had Avantones and they were bad except for PA purposes, and have Auratone reissues which work better mix-wise. Those will reveal the sound of your amp because there's so little to them. Single-driver speakers
