I’ve mixed one of my tracks from my ep in mono then switched over to stereo and wow!

I bought a pair of Avantone Mixcubes but I believe the real magic is in using one. On that note -- for ~$20 you can get a Stereo-to-Mono summing box on Amazon which folds to mono before it goes to your Auratone. If you want to spend $20 for the convenience of not hitting the mono button in your DAW.

Anyone Using Auratones?

No auratone, but am using avantones--they are extremely helpful to clear up the midrange, as too much congestion sounds awful on them in a way that might only sound mediocre on full-range, ported speakers. My understanding is the Avantones are a bit more hyped than the Auratones, but this works real

Narrower > Wide Mixes

Good question. I own a pair of Avantone Mixcubes and I've used them stereo, dual-mono, and also single-mono. My favorite way to use a speaker like that is definitely single-mono, and I even got a stereo-to-mono summing box so I have instant mono without having to click "mono" in the DAW. (Well spent

Was gifted a pair of Genelec 1031a’s, where should I place them? In the red square, or swap the JBL 305’s?

i'd go with genelecs horizontal, and straight above them avantone ns10s, but with tweeters inside. they are way too wide now. same distance, because if you put genelecslittle back, the avantones will create an acoustic obstacle for them. better that they are flush with each otherr imo. genelec is no

Narrower > Wide Mixes

I've never used the Auratone. Because it's mono if you have something hard left (or right I forget) it doesn't represent on the Avantone. I'm running it as an ALT from my Apollo Twin. It's not a huge deal, I know it so if I want to check something that's blind I just pan it over and then put it back

Depends on what you want. I don’t only use it with the sp, I have an Mpc x and occasionally record stuff in Logic. My mixes sounded pretty crap until I got myself some Avantone Mixcubes. Not saying I am a master right now, but the mixes translate better, and I can hear effects like compression much

(New guy) Drums sound fine in headphones but are wayyy too echoey on small speakers

Could be phase. This is the fun of mixing. The speaker test. Where the mix sounds great on something then elsewhere falls apart. I got some headphones from avantone that let you switch from stereo to mono and then another setting that emulates their mixcubes which messes with midrange. These things

Are headphones/earphones something of the past?

Yes, do that. I have little info on the efficacy rate or if it only works in certain cases. I used a single driver speaker (Avantone MixCube). The hypothesis goes that under normal circumstances the brain constructs the sound field image you experience by correlation between the left and the right e

Does anyone mix dialogue with midrange monitors?

Yup Auratone 5c are better measuring than the Avantone mixcube, if you have the intent to use them for mids they're much more conventional and smooth across the mid range. Auratone Measurements Measurement Media Avantone Measurements Measurements Media My underrated but honest take is that you could
