Belay Devices

There is no right answer because you are looking for an assisted belay device for the wrong reasons. The extra layer of assistance is a huge and non-negligible help for a person who can belay but is momentarily caught off-guard (not paying attention), incapacitated, or the situation escalates (eg a

GriGri vs Edelrid Pinch vs Beal Birdie?

I have used both the pinch and the grigri and I like the pinch a bit more due to its better ergonomics. The direct attachment and the straight rope feed are both more comfortable for me to use. On the other hand, I don't really like either of these devices for lead rope belaying. Both are very grabb

GriGri "3" vs GriGri + (lead mode)

You want a Wild Country Revo and an Edelrid Ohm / Ohmega. The Revo locks up reliably and is panic-proof - your kids can't disable the locking, even during lowering. If you're worried about your kids not holding the dead hand of the rope, neither the grigri nor the neox is suitable. The Ohm / Ohmega

How to enforce a belayer with secondary enforcement?

The Wild Country Revo is probably the closest thing to a foolproof belay device. It automatically locks when the rope exceeds a certain speed, otherwise, it acts like a weak ATC. That does mean that it requires more strength to stop a fall or hold a hanging climber without the emergency brake, but t

Belay Devices

So after reading everyone else: Wild country Revo. Even if you dont hold the brake line as its an interia based belay device will stop the fall. Better if u teach them but thats atleast the safest ( not the better nor the most usefull)

Belay Devices

i agree. with the grigri, it is possible that it does not engage by itself, that the user prevents it from engaging by pressing the cam or by pulling the lever to far when lowering, and inserting the rope incorrectly. the revo has none of these. when wild country presented the revo on trade fairs, t

Why no more ATCs?

Because assisted braking devices are both safer (will USUALLY work even if you screw up) and more convenient (little to no hand strength required to stop a fall or hold a hanging climber). That applies both to grigri-style devices (I don't really like the Grigri TBH) and to autotube-style devices (I

bouldering with epilepsy?

Autobelay and something like the wild country Revo which is rated as an automatically locking belay device could be a solution.
