Definitely worth it to have one, it'll pay for itself if you end up in an accident that wasn't your fault but the third parties insurer try to dispute liability, or if somebody hits your car whilst it's parked and then drives off. Viofo dash cams imo, are the best. I have the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 Battery Pack hardwired to my car, and connected my Viofo A329 to the battery pack so it doesn't drain my car's battery during parking mode.
