New NAS + Plex is a Dream.
No, I actually came from a WD MyCloud 2TB! This is my first major NAS upgrade after four years of the WD. I know many Synology users have moved on to the UGREEN NAS, and that’s where I first heard of it. Since I was already familiar with UGREEN products, I knew I could trust it. I highly recommend g

Which NAS is better for a family movie library?
DXP2800 Here's a good review BUT be warned that you will hit a limit with 2 harddrive bay NAS systems as other's have mentioned. For your 30TB dream, may be smart to get a used office computer and stack HardDrives in there.

DIY or Buy
You can often build a similar or better performance system that supports a larger number of drives for the same cost as a pre-built. Ie for the cost ofa UGreen DXP2800 2 bay N100 NAS @ $389usd you can build a 6 Bay N150 system with twice the ram and a 128GB NVMe for the OS for $385usd, you still nee

DXP8800 with an SCSI PCI card and DAS(Enclosure) attached?
TrueNAS community has a whole set of info around HBAs but basically everyone will tell you to get a LSI SAS2 or SAS3 HBA with IT mode firmware, that’s because TrueNAS insists on managing disks directly as ZFS pools with full SMART data access rather than eg hardware RAID implemented on the disk cont

Cheap setup to learn TrueNAS basics before major investment
The problem with using cheap as your only requirement is that chances are if you decide to really use it, it wont meet your actual storage and usage needs. Are you using this as file storage, to host apps/vm’s/services, for media/large file storage, etc? What sort of networking do you need…1Gbps, 2.

DXP2800 SSD Cache, Worth It?
From my experience totally, absolutely NOT! I also have a DXP2800 with 2-8TB BarraCuda Seagate drives. The problems started when I decided to install a Samsung 980 Pro SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive to use as a cache drive. Eventually I started receiving over temp beeps and log msgs, so I tried improvi

Looking to move on from my Synology DS218+, what is the best NAS for a £300 budget?
For your use case the UGreen would fit better and it seems you're better off with a 4 bay NAS which can expand with your increasing data and allow you room for growth. The DXP2800 can be gotten for that price point but you'll do best with the DXP4800 or the 4800+ if you can pay the extra and can tak

DXP2800, is it possible to boot from NVME or one of the HDD slots?
No, I haven't tried to overwrite the eMMC... yet. My warning to back it up is based on the fact that its soldered in, and is not replaceable in the event of a failure and you may need to try to run it off of a USB drive if it does. No, the N100 models, at least the DXP2800, appears incapable of boot
