Dang, UGREEN goofed. I have a DH2300 and I'm happy but I can see how some people got pissed about it. I guess they underestimated the demand and their cost due to parts shortages... Now they are trying not to sell at cost or at loss. I can see how people are pissed, but I can also see how this can b

NAS Overkill?
The DS225+ ($339) is good and would not be overkill, but I would highly recommend getting larger than 2TB drives you're considering. In fact, the price difference from 2TB to 4TB or even 6TB drives is quite small, so consider that if you want to have some space to grow. Other options to consider if

Starting setup
I just ordered the new announced DH2300 from Ugreen. It’s a bit cheaper and maybe perfect to start with. I’v had a Synology in the past, and worked perfect. Maybe you could look at a different setup for your disks. A 2 bay wil offer you raid 0 and raid 1. 2x 16TB is also much more expensive when one

Raspberry pi 5 M.2 board for a home NAS
For $200 you could get a real NAS. I get it if you want to do it as a project or to learn how to set up your own NAS with extra capabilities. But I figured I'd point out that... The Ugreen NASync DH2300 is around $210, $188 if you buy it on their store. GMKtec's 4 slot NVME NAS is around $230 Beelin

I second this suggestion. Get not only one nas, but two. One you keep at your place a and second one that you keep at a location offsite (family member, friends house, etc.). This give you s FULL control and ownership of your data, is available over the internet should you desire, so it can operate

Cheapest NAS for RAID 1?
You can use the fritzbox external drive - it wont be in raid 1, but you can probably get away with a monthly backup onto a fallback drive - when you visit them make the backup while there and then take it home with you. This provides offsite redundancy cheaply, but the copy will take ages Thats the

Is this a good first NAS?
I agree with this advice in general. Ugreen launched its first lineup very successfully because it had a superior CPU and memory to what was already out there, especially Synology. That's the 2800, 4800, 4800+, etc. They followed up with a less expensive but less powerful lineup including this DH230

Using drives outside of the NAS
I'm a novice myself, but to give some thoughts: If you format them as BASIC under UGREEN's NAS system... then maybe! In theory, they're then all separate drives, and operating as normal hard drives. I've yet to see anyone fully confirm or 'unconfirm' this. RAID definitely wouldn't work, as the files

Another which nas should I get question that's been asked 10000 times
All of the UGREEN NAS boxes except for the DH2300 and DH4300 Plus have Intel CPUs (N100, Intel Pentium Gold 8505, and Intel i5 1235u) that can leverage QuickSync for hardware transcoding. SSDs are usually more reliable than HDDs for the most part. Anything with moving parts is more likely to fail. I

Halloween Giveaway: Win $1,500 in Cash & Prizes!🎃
The UGreen DH2300 looks pretty cool for an entry NAS, and I could see using it as part of a 3-2-1 Backup strategy. The 1GbE port is probably the most limiting factor for me though. Would be nice if it was a 10gig port as I couldn’t imagine trying to transfer max capacity 60TB at 1Gbps, but I doubt t
