Synology vs alternatives for a first, family-friendly NAS – worth it?
Besides what everyone already said here I would like to add a few things: In terms of storage I’ve been taught going for 2.5 times the storage of what you think you need. Doing some quick maths (200 gb * 3 * 2,5=1.500 GB). Always round up above so 2 tb minimum for a drive. There is no such thing as pl

HDD enclosure as a shared drive
If you're not hardcore enough to build this, you're looking at buying a NAS (network attached storage). Synology is super easy but expensive. There are other manufs that offer cheaper, but I have no experience with those. I love my DS923+

Which 4 bay again?
The overall best two Synology models to consider that are 4 bay and decently priced, with good overall options, would be the DS925+ and the DS923+. The DS925+ would rank as better imo because it's newer. Otherwise both have similar specs. For example, the DS925+: CPU: AMD Ryzen V1500B 4-core 2.2 (ba

I think I'm getting off this ride
about 2 years ago I started seriously thinking the way you are now, and 18 months ago I jumped ship and bought my own DS224+ for my home use (I already had several DS923+ at work that I had put in). It just felt right - Xpenology showed me there is value in the Synology eco-system, and I still like

Buying a new NAS or building one yourself? Currently using DS918+
Depends on what you need in terms of expansion at least for me. I’m running a DS923+ and it’s been a wonderful experience super easy to setup, plenty of guides for docker or anything. Drive and photos support out of the back… Synology is plug and play reliability. Problem is I’m going hardcore with
