How well does a Pi 5 work as a NAS?

I personally don't like Pi's, I've just had too many fail on me, BUT! 1Gbit ethernet, do you need more than 1Gbit? What are you going to actually be doing on it? Unless you're going to be doing some heavy data transfer, you don't need over 1Gbit. ARM Processor, have a look at the specifications of s

My compact home server setup

Right now the nas is the key component of his setup so why not. Can always move it later. Noctua fans in the Synology is cool. I also have a ds423 and may look into this. Good work OP.

Bare minimum minipc for home theater?

Definitely. I have a ds423+ synology NAS, which has a Celeron J4125. Ive been shocked with how much stuff I could do with that system, as far as dockers go. I probably have 20 of them running. That J4125 is significantly slower than something like an n100, that's in all the cheap mini pcs and your 9

Photographers - give me your best advice from experience?

Standard backup protocol is 3-2-1. 3 copies, 2 mediums, 1 offsite. For many people, simply having a NAS with a cloud backup is a good start. To be more secure, you would have another NAS in maybe a family member's home to mirror your own NAS. That would fulfil 3 copies (2 nas 1 cloud), 2 mediums (hd

Wanting a small 2-bay setup for a home server between my Mac and Windows computers

So something like the Synology DS423 or the Ugreen DXP4800 Plus? I like Ugreen for their cables, but I don’t know how their proper devices hold up against Synology. Willing to consider both, but I see so many models, it’s difficult to really know what I want.

Wanting a small 2-bay setup for a home server between my Mac and Windows computers

I see there are two models of 4-bay Synology - their site shows the DS423 as a budget model; the DS925+ is more expensive, but it's also two years newer (the last two digits in the model number indicate model year). It might be worth discussing more on r/Synology.

DIY Unraid vs turnkey NAS in 2026: still worth the build?

I’ve had the gamut, from Windows servers, Unraid servers, and Synology boxes. If you just want to serve files, have an always on way to backup your network of devices, run a great Plex server, handle HomeKit and other home automations, and run a mountain of containers, the Synology DS423+ / DS425+ w
