How are y'all managing your photo libraries?
Did this as well. I got a synology 920+ with two 10TB drives. Have been using them for 3 years. It also doubles as my Plex media server as well. Worth the 700 or so upfront cost. I'll probably add two more 14TB drives at the end of the year.

DS920+ to what?
We also have a 920+. It is up to date and will receive full updates for quite a while, no end of live is announced for it and once it is announced, Synology typically provides security updates for another 2 years, so use it and enjoy it until further notice. If you only use as backup file server, Sy

Best way to keep local backup of iCloud storage?
I actually use 2 - I have a DS718+ and a DS920+. A little clarification from my comment might be needed. The Mac needs to be running to get backed up, but all the other cloud backups happen without any intervention from a computer. To set it up, a computer would be easier than a tablet, but it’s pro

Is it worth it to migrate from Synology photos to Immich?
Same situation here, ran Synology Photos on a DS920+ for a couple years before switching. The memory creep on long timeline scrolls is real and it never got fixed properly in my experience. Annoying on a tablet especially. Immich is genuinely better. The client-side memory issue does not exist in th

Finally have Pi-hole & Unbound up and running. DNS issues are making me want to rip it out!
I've run mine on Synology (no Unbound) for years (920+ 20GB ram) in a debian VM (4cpu / 1gb ram) and have not had any issues. The only quirk is the vm takes a few minutes after a boot to come up. Good luck!

Plexamp is so darn cool
You do not, you can install the server directly onto the NAS using the Synology DSM. I have a 920+, I've been running it for ~4 years with no issues. But you can also have the server on another device and pull the media from the NAS storage. I'm waiting for a NUC to be delivered this week to finally

Hardware Advice needed
what helped me when i built mine was going with a Startech 12U open frame rack - easy access and good airflow. for NAS i switched to a Synology DS920+ and never looked back. thing i wish i added sooner? a rackmount UPS. power hiccups killed my uptime until i got one. gives you clean power and fits r

RoonOnNAS Synology Roon Server Update
I've never had such a problem on my DS920+. I run native and not on docker. It's rock solid. This has been helpful to me: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/a-roon-on-synology-nas-primer/253298 Not only that, the guy who wrote it is a great person.

Restore from backup.
i had this same conundrum recently where i had immich running on an HP ML110 running proxmox on it's own ubuntu VM; lol because of certain outside factors electricity is now expensive as fuck so i decided to condense it down to a mini pc (ubuntu/docker). i followed the backup and restore process out

24x7 Low power nas setup with hdd and nvme for speed.
The absolute lowest power NAS I successfully used was Radxa Zero 3W with 2TB NVMe connected via USB which consumed about 2/5W with idle/active status, could be less if the load on processor is decreased. Also used Pi 4B with HDDs connected over USB , it was an ugly mess of adaptors and wires. It stil
