Looking for a NAS for a Plex/Jellyfin server

I run Jellyfin on my Synology DS920+ NAS. IMO, only Synology's plus series of NAS devices (with a GPU) are suitable for a consumer grade Jellyfin server. Among the latest models, only the DS425+ has the GPU needed for Jellyfin hardware transcoding - - that's probably the NAS I'd get if I bought one

4-bay (DXP4800 Plus) or 6-bay (DXP6800 Pro)? Price vs performance?

Just a few days ago I pulled the trigger on the DXP6800 Pro. What a jump in performance from my old Synology 920+. I picked up 2 more Seagate IronWolf drives and now running six 12tb drives in RAID 10. I only glanced at the DXP4800, but I thought if I am going to upgrade then go 6 bay. Nice that the

New home server hardware advice

The ugreen nas option is pretty nice. It has the quicksync support so it will be good for plex transcoding since you have a plex pass. People are suggesting NAS + mini pc because it allows some room for growth. I started off with a Synolgy DS920+ and used it to run plex directly as well as other ser

Is it worth it to migrate from Synology photos to Immich?

Same situation here, ran Synology Photos on a DS920+ for a couple years before switching. The memory creep on long timeline scrolls is real and it never got fixed properly in my experience. Annoying on a tablet especially. Immich is genuinely better. The client-side memory issue does not exist in th

Synology Nas , Nvidia Shield or minipc for Plex server?

Plex Media Server on a mini-PC. Storage on DAS or NAS. The Shield is a great client. It is a terrible server. You do not need a Plex Pass for hardware transcoding with a Shield. However, that advantage is more than offset by the issues. The prime problem is that the server is prone to simply disappe

Immich beginner

I run my immich on a Synology NAS 920+ and works like a charm. Yes, the initial Machine Learning process took a very long time (several days) after my initial load, but after that, it's been running smoothly all the time. Everything loads fast.

Roon and Tidal don't want to work together

I have Roon installed on Synology 920+ and I have no issues with Tidal integration. What are you running Roon server on? Is server/core wired or wireless ?

Most performance per power with CPU TDP up to 15W with reasonable price.

Out of suggested price, but to consider based on perfomance - around 4 times better than N100 and in comparision to N97 - around 5 times is for example U58 Mini PC based on AMD Ryzen 7 5825U. Problem is transcoding - I find out that is worse than on Intel. I don't need it this, but it is crucial inf

Immich makes my Synology DS224+ almost unusable during first backup (~32k files)

on the NAS: to the immich .env file add IMMICH_WORKERS_INCLUDE=api to the docker-compose.yml file under redis: add ports: - "6379:6379" under database: add ports: - "5433:5432" On the remote worker Mount the uploads and postgres directories to your filesystem to the immich .env file add DB_HOSTNAME=<N

Advice on setup

I started the same way as you did about a decade ago.. ITX MB, small CPU, couple of disks.. But soon I've soon realised it's much simpler to buy readymade NAS. Anything exposed to the internet 24/7 I know I cannot protect as good as any decent company. If you give it some thought, they will save you
